Last blog I mentioned I’m in my last semester of pre requisites to qualify for our nursing program at UH. The fall deadline for application was January 31 but I put in my application early in the month. Entry is based entirely on points accumulated by grades and also clinical experience. I should have the clinical points because I work as a clinical medical assistant. I administer injections, take and record vitals, process specimens and I’ve drawn blood a couple of times already. I took the entry exam and earned the maximum 5 points for that. I am a 4.0 student - at least for now! I’m still in 2 final classes that would qualify for points so I’m only receiving half value for those unless they put me on a wait list and then calculated the full points in May. In any event, the letters will be going out either late in March or sometime in April.
My husband and I have a plan for the future. He will retire from his full time job in the summer of 2015. I should be finished with the nursing program in the summer of 2014. I’m planning to go back to work at my present job in our campus health center for a year while my husband is in his last year at work. During that time, I’ll also take chemistry and statistics classes to complete the pre requisites to go back to school and earn a Bachelors degree in nutrition and dietetics. There are a couple of universities with distance learning programs in dietetics that are accredited with the American Dietetics Association.
So.......at this point things are going along as planned.
I should add that my husband isn’t going to fully retire. He’s been consulting through the past 20 years and plans to do that part time. I don’t think the man will ever fully retire. He’ll probably be consulting indefinitely.
Cynthia, congratulations to you on maintaining a perfect GPA! You have certainly put in the study time. Goal-setting as you have done definately helps you to balance your time and LIFE. You are/will be an asset to the medical profession.
God bless you and may your road to higher education be successful!

Thats awesome! You‘re awesome. I never had an over tht table job long enough to accrue any social security adn even though hubby worked all his life , a lot of that time was self employed and all that we did have saved got eaten up when I got my real estate license. I know in my heart of hearts , something will work out someway for us! At least is the market turns back around i ca make some money doing real estate and sell out home this time if it goes back up so we can get what ours is wort which we cannot do now...we probably wouldn’t get a third of what its worth right now. Ive actually given nursing A LOT of thought...i keep telling myself i am too old but kelly came home last night and told me there’s a 46 year old nursing major in her biology class...so who knows maybe ill look into it! Best of luck to you! God Bless and thank you for being an inspiration!
