Ug - how do I get myself into these situations?  When it comes to volunteering, my general rule is “don’t do it” because my schedule is already too packed as it is!  But here I am.  My daughter is a 3rd-year cheerleader at her middle school.  Me - I’m not your typical cheer mom.  But I help out where I can to help the kids out.  This coming school year my daughter will be the the ranking cheerleader (she’s the one with the most years on the squad).  We have a new coach who I have known personally for years.  The old coach basically had a break-down early in the school year so we went most of the football season without a coach.  Parents banded together to keep the girls going until a new coach could be selected.  So here we are gearing up for a new season.  The new coach had a good idea of starting a cheer booster club.  Basically what’s she’s doing is handing off all admin duties to the club so she can concentrate of the squad.  Good idea I thought - good delegation.  However guess who’s heading up this booster club ... a club that’s never been done at this school before?  Me!  Tonight is our first parent meeting.  I have a mission statement ready, by-laws, etc etc.  I head meetings up all the time at work.  I supervise a team of 28 people & the projects we do require a lot of communication & planning.  And I’m fine running those!  I’ve given proposals in front of potential new customers that won us multi-million dollar contracts!  Why am I nervous about running a meeting of 15 cheer parents?  It’s not life or death.  No one is going to lose their job if this doesn’t go right.  Yet I had nightmares about it last night!  This is nuts.  I think I’m going to have to have a vodka tonic before the meeting starts.
