I STEPPED OUT...WE DID IT!!!

Those were the words I uttered two days ago after hosting my First ever Business to Business Networking & Social event.

For months I had been planning in my mind a gathering that would involve business professionals as well as individuals who were interested in meeting career-minded professionals. It was not to be a “dating” event but one that would be professionally and socially stimulating for everyone who attended.  

Being the net-surfer that I can sometimes be and being responsible for hosting a monthly party for a radio program (pro bono)I was on the look-out for something extra to make it more appealing and interesting to guests. I stumbled upon a wonderful lady after creating my meetup site (http://tinyurl.com/8cr3pl) who was also promoting her business and was willing to offer a free 3 day 2 night weekend as a door prize at the event. WOW! This was an amazing connection I thought at the time and was excited to present the gift to the Radio Show’s Host and Guests.  

Well, the wonderful lady and I kept in touch and in the midst of many phone conversations and IMs we shared our professional dreams and aspirations. Together we decided to co-produce an event which we did in a week and a half! This included creating flyers, contacting potential guests, along with many other last minute details... and even though it was challenging at times.... WE DID IT!

We ended up hosting to eight attendees, all of whom are unique and interesting and brought such light to the event that I feel as if I am still beaming with sunshine! We had professioanl representation from an accountant to an artist... just amazing!

I guess this blog is to say, STEP OUT!  I stepped out and found a wonderful, like-minded professional to partner with and so can you, if you just step out of the box. Out of the circle we are accustomed to.  

This was my first face-to-face online connection EVER...and even though it was not a romantic connection (I have that area covered) it is definitely a professional connection that could last for a life-time.
