I cannot take credit for this information. My sister who is also on Fab40, who rarely comes to visit, has shared with me some details which can aid in putting your business name at the top of a search engine.

Add a tracking counter to your website. There is one that you can use for free called, “Statcounter.” She recommended, and I agree, to make the count invisible. You can easily click on your counter and log in to view your “hits.”

Use Internet Explorer to view your site OFTEN! The more hits you have on your site, the faster you will drive your site to the top of the search engine for all Internet Providers. Again, you will want to do this daily and often.

I hope this information is helpful.

    • Great suggestion!

To take it one step further, see if your website host provider can assist you with a stats report that tells you where  you get your hits from.  That way, you can see what's working, and what's not.  My site is hosted through GoDaddy and they have this feature.

For example, it’s very helpful for me to know that a lot of my traffic comes from a listing I have on [Link Removed] way, I know to go there often to update my profile and I know to tell the owners THANK YOU for their SEO efforts!  You see, I’m basically using their money to promote myself by having a listing there.

Another example of what I’m talking about is my MySpace: It has not served me well promotion-wise, however, FaceBook has, so I focus more energy on my FB profile and groups and only check in on MySpace once or twice a month.

There’s A LOT to SEO and that said, if anyone has any SEO questions, please contact me directly and I’ll try to answer your questions. I’ve learned a lot along the way!

      Love to you all, kelly

    • I’m going to do all of these things. And, also, Vicki recommended looking at [Link Removed] for great tips on online marketing.

    • Thank you so much for all your contributions and replies.

I wanted to mention that “Statcounter” does keep a log from where your “hits” are coming from. Thank you Kelly, I would not have known to look for the log had you not noted that.

I have also been given a list from someone at “Ask Me Help Desk,” who is well informed, as to the sites that have free advertising. I will be adding that soon.

I noticed that anything that is posted to that site will come up first in the search engine. I posted an introduction to myself there and it was all over the search engines. Just an FYI.  ( www.askmehelpdesk.com )

    • I forgot to mention that “Statcounter” also gives you demographics on a map as to where your “hits” are coming from, and several “pie” anaylsis, and other data.

    • Your welcome. And Jen, I think everyone has their own favorites. I am with Lunarpages and like them a lot. My sister has a favorite and she has had several sites. I will ask her. I like Lunar because they have a cart already implemented. Also you can build and launch it from there,as well as owning your name without a fee the first year.

If you hear that you can build a site and then transfer it, know what that means, because it did NOT work for me.tongue out

I’m sure if you write a blog you will get lots of good answers.estatic  If I can help in any other way just let me know.

Ask lots of questions if you decide to have one.And some sites that have really cheap sites you can launch, can be pretty complicated if you do not have building skills. I started out the cheap way and swithched to the next step up in which there was help along the way to help me. Pretty fast and easy.

      I hope this helps somewhat.
