Finding your target market, or "niche", is a Millionaire's Secret to selling services and/or products, but you can't stop there. You must also ask that market, your clients, "What do you Want?" (vs. What do you Need).

I used to think that the best way to serve my celebs was to ask, "What do you Need?".  I thought that question was very customer-service oriented and since I've served others my entire life and I'm a mom, asking them what they needed felt natural and comfortable for me.  However! The result was often ridiculous requests for freebies, long-distance travel to them, appointments that would cancel at the last minute or no-shows, and high hopes that turned into nothing and tons of frustration. I felt used and abused and found that I was not being respectful to myself and had no one to blame for this but me!

So what did I do? I changed my question to "What do you Need?". This changed everything! The answers are now, "Kelly, I need some reds with lots of blue tones", or "Kelly, I need a glitter gloss that would go with my Brick shade". When you ask, "What do you Need?", no one replies with, "I need free product", or "I need for you to come to my set today between 1pm and 4pm and maybe I'll have time for you."

Changing my question to, “What do you Need?” also helped me understand my target market’s lifestyle and their line of work so now I serve them better by asking all the “right” questions. Answers to, “What do you Need?” include, “Kelly, I need to have my product delivered to my home in Malibu since I’m there more” (so now I ask, what location is better for them for delivery?); another common reply is, “Kelly, can you hook up with my make-up artist and work out my colors with her? She knows what looks best on me“. So now I ask up front, “Do you want to meet with me or do you want me to work with your make-up artist?” (BTW, many celebrities still do their own make-up).

Maybe this will work for you? Just another thought from my vault that I’m happy to share and of course, I’d love to hear from the membership here on their, “Millionaire Secrets“!

    • “Finding your target market, or “niche“, is a Millionaire’s Secret.”

So that’s what I need to consider, change my question to “What do you need?”

I am bilingual and I offer a service. I know a lot of people who have need but something is missing so I will rethink my approach with the input you have provided.
