Today I had to have an echocardiogram so the doctor get an update on my heart’s condition since I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy several years ago.

As I laid there on the table, the practioner was poking and prodding so hard on my left breast, I thought she would leave permanent bruising.  I even made the comment that it was worst that a mammagram.  She just laughed and said that’s what some other women have told her.

Last week, I did, in fact, have a mammagram and I told the examiner I was glad I had small breasts because I couldn’t imagine having big breasts sqauashed on the machine.  She said she thought having big breasts were better.  Since I have nothing to base it on, I’ll just ask you—-is bigger really better when it comes to these procedures?

I’m still saying “Ouch!”

    • I had a mammogram about a month ago and let me tell you, it was not pleasant.  I have been blessed/cursed with DDs.  Flattening DDs into pancakes was no easy feat.  They had to take 4 additional pictures on each breast just to get the entire picture.  It was not fun.  The technician told me that it’s more difficult to take pictures of bigger breasts because the nipple has to be in a certain place on the glass.  Mine kept moving.  I wanted to run out and get a breast reduction the next day but my husband loves them so I guess I’ll keep them.  Plus, it takes some of the attention off of my fat happy

    • Ohhhh, nooooo, next week is my mammogram and I know that I am in for it!!!  I have been much like you and do not have a large chest.  In the past, when I was nursing my baby, I got a clogged milk duct.  I went to the doctor and they insisted that I have a mammogram.  Well, this gets very funny because when I was getting squeezed so hard with that machine, all of a sudden, the milk from the breast let loose and starting squirting out breast milk all over the machine!!!  No joke!
If nothing else, we had a good laugh and my milk duct was no longer clogged!!!

    • I have not had a one yet.  I am the itty bitty, flat iron, airport runway type and I always wonder if they can ever squeeze anything out of them!

    • Well...I have had large breasts and now I have smaller breasts thanks to my breast reduction in Dec. of 2006.  Best surgery I could have besides the hysterectomy.

For me...when I had my mammograms with my larger breasts...it didn’t seem to hurt as much or if at all.  They of course have to always take lots of pictures because I am high risk...so I can’t say they took more when I had larger breasts.

But I’ve had one mammogram since the reduction and that was last December and it was a bit more uncomfortable.  But then again...it could have been that I was still a bit sensitive from the surgery.  I’m still a C and believe me...it’s so nice.  My back troubles disappeared.

I’m due for mine next month.....along with the visit to my surgeon...he checks me every year.

      Get your mammogram!!
