Our grandsons wanted to make banana/choc chip bread the other day.

Can you see my eyes crossing????

Poor kids-too hot to be outdoors after noon and the Monster Truck model kits we picked out together DID NOT FIT INTO THEIR OWN PIECES.

So I took out the bag of “banana rejects“, a can of pumpkin, the chocolate chips and we had a baking good time.  They enjoyed helping pour in the sugars, tasting what plain pureed pumpkin tastes like (they liked it actually-claiming they now know why Jackson likes his baby food), having a small amount of chocolate chips and realizing that “this is the best thing we’ve ever eaten grandma!  No wonder your recipe is in that cookbook!”

I’ll take the compliments wherever I can find them these days.

With that said, our thermometer in the patio, the one UNDER the cover said “109” at 8:30 this morning.  I’m not cooking any part of dinner in the house today.

Yesterday-I put bratwursts, foil pouches of onions, mini bells and garlic on the grill and even toasted some whole wheat hoagie rolls for dinner.  Tonight-grilling some pork loin chops seasoned with lemon pepper and broccoli on the grill.  I’m going to take the veg and blend it with some leftover barley pilaf, steamed carrots and a lemon/caper/evoo dressing and serve it cold.

Just not in the mood to cook in this heat.  Our temps for the summer hover around 115 out here.  No monsoons in sight for the time being, either.

My goal is just to keep the house under 80 without breaking our electric usage until we break 100 around the end of September.

Love it
