1- Naturalize Your Makeup

Heavy foundation, too bright lipstick and blue eye makeup does nothing for you. Eliminate thick foundation. It is a road map to wrinkles. Instead, use a tinted moisturizer, it’s softer and will give you two important things, hydration and coverage.

If you do use foundation, skip the powder - it also settles in lines and wrinkles. A sheer light textured foundation is the best.

Use neutral colors for eyes- a smoky brown, soft grey and mocha are the best. Never use a cream eye shadow as it gets oily and separates the color. Powder shadow is the only way to go.

Use a natural color lipstick that is skin enhancing. Test a color on the back of your index finger if you can’t try it on your mouth as that part of your body is the closest to your lips and will give you a true color match. Always finish your lips with a gloss.

2- Simplify Your Hair

Loose the hot rollers, teasing and over spraying. It makes your hair look too “done ” and very dated. Get a simple sleek cut that you can simply wash and wear. And remember, long hair looks great on Alice in Wonderland, mature women should avoid long hair styles at all cost. If you want to have long hair, wear it in a classic chignon NEVER a pony tail.

3- Find A Flattering Eyebrow Shape

The eyebrow is the most important feature on the face. Get your brows professionally waxed at least twice a year and then you can follow the line and just tweeze for maintenance. Make sure you get them done by a professional not just anybody who offers waxing services such as the person who does your nails at the nail salon.

Hair thin eyebrows age the face and a heavy, overgrown brow can overpower your features. Thicken eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil if you don’t have much natural hair growth. Apply the pencil in light, feathery upward strokes.

4- Give Your Face a Glow

Use a moisturizer that has lifting, firming and toning properties in it and use it daily under your foundation. Same goes for eye cream. Find one that address dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles and use it day and night.

This is my favorite quotation from my favorite icon and woman. It really says it all.

bq. For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.

    • Very good advice.  I have long since given up my thick red lipstick.  I use brown eye shadows, mineral foundation and pink or brown lipstick which is more youthful. I use brow powder with a brush and sometimes also enhance with a pencil. This creates a soft but finished look.-Sandy
