What was it that caused so many souls

To suffer and die for Christ?

What gave them the courage to embrace the cross;

what blessed their sacrifice.

Death once came to claim their souls

but now they are above:

What was it that so influenced their lives:

The Answer Lies in Love

When placed before the raging beasts

and subjected to the sword,

They remained constant in faith:

confessing their Crucified Lord

No guillotines or boiling baths

could turn them from God above

For they were convinced within their hearts

That: The Answer Lies in Love

Many were poor unlearned souls

who had never attended school;

Yet each one carried within their hearts

A copy of a Christ’s Holy Rule

The world’s wisdom could not compare

with God’s wisdom from above

And that is why it failed to see that:

The Answer Lies in LOve

To put an end to this poetic phrase

a question remains for you:

Is martyrdom a vocation reserved for

the select and chosen few?

Will each of us someday receive

the martyrs crown from above?

I hear a silent chant arising:

It echoes:

The Answer Lies in Love

    • This poem is in honor of those souls who gave their lives

to spread the Gospel: .. what gave them courage to do this?

    • Eva:

Hi .. I think of them and in the early days..

when the gospel was being initially spread

they were put in with the lions .. or other

kinds of tortures..They were given the chance

to deny their faith in Jesus or die.. and

back then .. many loved Jeuss enough that they

would not deny believing in Him.

Today.. we may not have to face any wild beasts

or guillotines; but have our faith tested daily.

We can choose to be Christian or compromise our

beliefs.. in order to be popular or accepted.

So, how much we love will determine how far our

christian values will be incorporated into our daily

      lives..

      Joy

    • Do you know there are red martyrs and white martyrs?  Red are those who shed blood and white are those who shed tears.

We can all be white martyrs with our sufferings.  Let’s try to offer that up.

      Thanks for posting.
