This article was prompted by a friend of mine who had a dream that she was in the bathroom and blood was coming from her head. I knew from the dream what God was saying, but wanted clarification from the Holy Spirit before saying too much. I never want to express what I think in these matters but what He says. While preparing for work this morning she and her dream came across my spirit and I really felt impressed to ask her what was her thoughts and belief when Christians deal with illness. I knew she knew that our God is a healer and that disease and sickness was taken care of at the Cross-but what does she believe as to why Christians deal with illness. These are the statements she made which I want us to go to the Word to clarify:

Angeline, I never complained about this sickness, I never questioned God as to “Why Me?" I always asked of him what did he want me to learn from this, and how can I use this to be of strength and encouragement to others.

Also, I have often wondered why if we use the name of Jesus to come against sickness and disease, that thing is still there. I believe that when Jesus heals, that is it, at the name of Jesus sickness and disease should also bow to that name.

Look at Job, he was considered just and righteous but yet the Lord allowed Satan to attack his body with sickness in order to test his integrity.

Ok, so now, we are cooking with grease and I now understand the dream fully. I believe in the dream God is saying that her thinking must be renewed. Knowledge of a few basics truths, when properly understood and applied, will make a huge difference in releasing God's power and receiving your healing.

TRUTH: Sin is no longer an issue with God; we are redeemed!

The message most people hear says that sin breaks your relationship or fellowship with God. That you lose your salvation ("backslide") every time you sin, until it is confessed, others believe your eternal salvation is still secure, but you lose fellowship, cannot get your prayers answered, or can't be used of God if you sin. Please note: It is impossible to keep every sin confessed. Even if it were possible, that puts the burden of salvation and its benefits on our backs not God's.

TRUTH: God has already placed His healing power within us, and it is now under our authority. It is not up to God to determine who receives healing; it is up to us.

TRUTH: Satan cannot control you outside of your will. He cannot do anything without your cooperation and consent. It is our failure to understand and use the authority we have that is keeping God’s healing power from flowing, as it should. It is imperative that we discover what we have and learn how to release it.

TRUTH: It is never God’s will for us to be sick; He wants every person healed every time. That is the Gospel. Most Christians do not know or believe that. They think the Lord makes them sick, or at the very least, allows Satan to make them sick to punish, correct, or teach. That kind of thinking will get you killed; it is not what the Bible teaches. The Bible says that the Scripture is given to teach us. We can learn through trials, but God does not send them to teach us.

TRUTH: Healing is not up to God alone. It is not God who decides who gets healed and who does not. One of the worst and dangerous religious doctrines in the body of Christ is the belief that God controls everything that happens. Many Christians believe that God either controls or allows everything, and that Satan has to get His permission before he can do anything mainly because of the story in Job. This religion of convenience absolves the individual of any personal responsibility and this belief will kill you. I know this may shock some people, but it's true.

God’s Word in James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

This verse teaches that some things are of God, and some things are of the devil. It does not say from God through the devil. No, no, no! Sickness has nothing to do with God! Submit to the things of God, and resist the things of the devil. It’s that simple. To believe that God allows or approves of Satan’s actions defies the logic of James 4:7. It eliminates our responsibility to resist and places ultimate responsibility for everything back on God. This widely-accepted doctrine that God controls everything is a deception. If Satan can confuse and deceive you on that issue, he has you! Why? Because you will stop resisting him and him sickness, lack, poverty and so on. No one wants to resist God’s will, and if you think that God is behind your sickness, you will submit to it. That violates the instruction of James 4:7 and it won’t get you healed, and it lets Satan have his way in your life.

TRUTH: God's will does not automatically come to pass. We have to believe and cooperate with God to receive what He has provided for us, including our own salvation. Second Peter 3:9 says it is not God's will for anyone to perish: "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."

We do not have to ask Jesus to save us; we just need to believe the Good News that our sins are already forgiven and receive salvation (Acts 16:31). The same thing is true of healing. God has already healed everyone, just as He has already paid for the forgiveness of everyone's sins healing is already an accomplished work. First Peter 2:24 says, "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." Jesushas not, and will not, receive any more stripes.

TRUTH: The Scriptures do not tell us to pray for the sick. Jesus told US to HEAL the sick (Matt. 10:1, 8; Luke 9:1, and 10:9). There is a big difference between asking the Lord to heal people and healing them.

When Peter ministered to the lame man in Acts 3 he didn't pray for him. “Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.”

Notice Peter did not say, "O God, we can do nothing without You. Please heal this man if it is Your will." Knowing that it is always God's will to heal (3 John 2) because that is what He saw Jesus do the Apostle Peter said, "Such as I have give I thee" (Acts 3:6). See we do not ask, then wait, and see. That does not express belief or faith in that God wants us healed, that is hoping that he does Instead of beggars, we need to become believers who, knowing God's will, use our authority to heal.

Talking and acting like that today goes against much of what is taught today, will get you kicked out of some churches as it did Jesus and His disciples in His day. You might be told something like, "Come on who do you think you are? Do you think you are equal to God? That's just not the way we do things in this church". That is a big reason why we do not see more of the healing power manifest that Jesus provided.

Peter's words did not mean that Peter was the source of healing. Notice what Peter said in Acts 3:12, “And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?”

God's power healed this man, but that power was under Peter's authority. Peter went on to say in verse 16 that it was faith in the name of Jesus that had wrought this miracle. However, Peter did not ask God to heal this man. He believed the Lord had already done His part and had placed that power within him. Now it was Peter's responsibility to release that power, and that is just what he did.

Again, Jesus told us to heal the sick not pray for the sick.

“Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.“(Luke 9:1-2)

“And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.” (Matt. 10:1)

“And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” (Matt. 10:7-8)

I know this goes contrary to popular doctrine for we are constantly told that it is not us but God who is the Healer, and I agree with that totally. But, I also believe that God has placed His healing power under our authority, and it is up to us to release it.

Ok look at that light switch on your wall. The power company generates the power and delivers it to your house right? It is not your power, but it is under your control. You don't call the power company and ask them to turn the lights on when you need them. No, as long as you have paid your bill they are already on. Your simple act of flipping the switch on the wall commands the power to work. Now apply this same principle to healing. Jesus has paid your bill, now all you need to do is to receive that He did, apply the switch (your faith), and turn it on. You have to assume your authority and acknowledge the power is under your command.

Faith is the key that brings the answer into the physical realm. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1). Your faith brings what God has accomplished into physical reality. God gives it to you in the spirit, and then faith brings it into the physical realm. Many times you don’t know God has answered your prayer because you can’t perceive it in the physical. You have to believe something is happening beyond your five senses. If you don’t believe it until you see it, you won’t receive from God. The Bible says you have to believe you receive when you pray.

In the book of Daniel we can see what happens between the time you say amen and see the answer manifested, "While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the LORD my God for his holy hill- while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice. He instructed me and said to me, “Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding. As soon as you began to pray, an answer was given, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed. Therefore, consider the message and understand the vision:" (Daniel 9:20-23 (NIV)

Look at that in only minutes, God answered his prayer. Gabriel said at the beginning of his prayer God answered, but it took a few minutes for it to become visible. Often, we step out of faith and stop the manifestation from coming.

In Daniel 10, Daniel is praying again. This time it says, in verse 3, he fasted and prayed for three weeks. In verse 10, God sends a messenger and answers.

"He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling. Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. (Daniel 10:11-13 (NIV)

Why did it take three minutes the first time and three weeks the second time? Some people say that God is making them wait to teach them something. That is not scriptural. The Bible says that the Scripture is given to teach us. We can learn through trials, but God does not send them to teach us. In addition, Gabriel tells us why: the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted him and Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help him.

If you pray and don’t see manifestation immediately that does not mean God has not answered, while we are waiting God tells us in James 4:7 what to do while we wait for the manifestation: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

How do we resist? We stand on the Word of God and it alone, we praise and thank God for what Christ did 2,000 years ago. The bottom line on God’s will for our healing is revealed in 3 John 2, which says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." The bottom line on God’s will for us to be prosperous. The Holy Spirit is saying here that the Lord wants us healthy just as much as He wants us to prosper emotionally and mentally.

Satan can hinder your prayer and he can use others to hinder. Sometimes, other people are involved in your answer. So another thing you can do to submit to God and resist the devil is: say you are praying for finances, intercede for the people who will be used in your prosperity. If you are trying to sell a house, pray for the person who will buy your house. If you want a promotion at work, pray for the boss who will be used to give you your promotion. If you have written a book that will bring deliverance, pray for the people who will read the book and so on. In this way, you are submitting to God for we are commanded to pray for one another and resisting all that the devil is using to block the manifestation and get you off track.

Now, the Word tells us that Jesus not only was doing good when He healed people, but He healed all that were oppressed of the devil, not of God. That scripture is another one that proves that sickness is not from God.

Isaiah 53:4-5 says, “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

Forgiveness of sins is not all that salvation is about. Physical healing is a part of the atonement of Christ. The Lord redeemed us from sickness just as much as He redeemed us from sin. Sickness is not of God just as sin is not of God. Thank You, Jesus!

Let's look at Luke 6:45 "A good man out of the good treasure of his heartbringeth forth that which is good; and a evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh."

Jesus is teaching that whatever deep thoughts you strongly believe in your heart, will eventually come forth out of your mouth. You can't hide disbelief, nor can you hide strong beliefs. Actions and speech project our true feelings and beliefs.

Some Christians think they don’t have enough faith to believe for healing or a miracle. Truth is that you can’t get any more faith than you already have. Romans 12:3 says that God has dealt to every man the measure of faith. God gave us all the same measure of faith. All we need do now is use it.

God bless you,
Angeline
