I had the pleasure of attending a very special baseball game this afternoon.  I only learned about it two days ago but i’m so glad my son was fortunate enough to be a part of it.

Every year the high school  baseball team hosts and assists in a baseball game named, The Challenger.  There are two teams of special-needs children ranging from age 6 through 16 and each player is buddied with a member of the high school team.  There are fielders and runners...Patrick was a runner.

Each of the children had a turn to bat each inning and the last batter automatically received all four bases...this player was dubbed the home-runner!  The diversity of ability was broad but the enthusiasm was high for everyone...players, helpers and spectators cheered, laughed and loved every minute.

If your son or daughter ever has the opportunity to participate in this type of event, i highly recommend that they jump at the chance.  If your high school doesn’t participate in this type of game, find out how to get them involved.

The players become acquainted with a team mate.

Patrick and his team mate chat on third.

Patrick cheers on a team mate at the plate.

Patrick and a team mate celebrate another run!

The high school baseball team congratulates the teams.

Love it
