Love it

pic    As I’m buying packing boxes at Home Depot, the guy who’s helping me says sarcastically, “Don’t you just love moving!”

Yes, it’s 100 degrees in the great Texas outdoors, and each time I even STEP out the door, I need to come inside and wash clothes and take a shower.

So I did all the outdoor stuff in a few days (buying the moving boxes, getting the extra cat and bird food I’ll need once I’ve moved and won’t know where the pet store is, getting bubble wrap and all that stuff). Okay, that’s done. I can now just stay in my cool apartment and pack stuff, and make phone calls.

So it’s really okay.

The other thing that's cool about moving, even though I'd kind of rather pull out all my toenails than move, but on the other hand I'll be happy once I'm there because my new little grandson is there, is that you get to downsize . Again. Every time I move I'm downsizing. Hmmm.

The fact is, I LOVE downsizing. I love not having a bunch of junk. I sometimes watch that show called “Hoarding” and then there’s another called “Hoarding: Buried Alive.” I’ve known hoarders in my day, but nothing like the peeps they put on TV. It fascinates me in a horrific kind of way.

Anyway, I’m shredding stuff. I’m taking stuff to Goodwill. I’m throwing out stuff. I’m re-organizing stuff. I absolutely love that part of this process. As I pack the boxes, I label each box with exactly what’s in it.

I often go overboard in the “getting rid of stuff” part, but I don’t care. I don’t like having a lot of junk. So I’m grateful for this move (for many reasons) but also because it gives me a chance to re-organize everything, prioritize everything, and not have one ounce of unnecessaries.

That’s not to say I’m a white wall minimalist. I have tons of knick knacks, photo memorabilia, wall hangings, lace thingees that I love but don’t know what to do with, and pink pillows. But to me that’s necessary!

Anyway, that’s how things are going for the moment in the moving process!

I’m seeing the silver lining in the great cloud of closet junk and old shoes!

    • I have moved 4 times in the last 5 yrs. Before that I only once in 10 yrs. UGH! I hate moving.

So I get what you mean about the purging of stuff. I love how it feels not to have excess stuff that I forgot about and buried somewhere.

My 1st move after 10 yrs resulted in so much junk being cleaned out. I was horrified by what I accumulated. I was terrified of turning into my mom who could have been called a hoarder.

But moving has a way of working things out, doesn’t it?

    • I hate moving too...well not the moving part it’s the packing up part I hate and I am probably classed as one of those hoarders...Maybe not as bad as the ones on tv....but nonetheless I am one who hates to part with things...

    • Love moving although I think I am good for the next few years - today is our 2 year anniversary of our 16th move in 23 years.

    • The part I don’t like Is packing everything. The part I do like, Is un-packing everythinghappy because you get to decorate your new place and set your things in new areas. Plus the stuff you got rid of just leaves you room for new stuff that you can find when you get settled in your new place.estatic

      Hope all goes well Suzannheart

    • I agree with everyone on the pain of moving. The last time I made a long distance mone, a wise friend told me “In order to let in the new into your life, you  must let go of the old“.

      Suzann,

Best wished on your positive move!

      Mary

    • Moving.... Don’t know how much you have until your ready to move!! I have found so many things once when I moved. Every second was OHHHH and AHHHH? The best part of moving is out with the old and in with the new as stated by Mary King. I truly believe that a new place holds new visions and inspiration for you.

      Good Luck!

    • Thanks, my dear Fab Sisters! Fortunately, although I may be leaving certain geographical friends who are non-cyber, we all will still be together! (I’ll have to get my other friends to join Fab40.)
