I went to see the Washington Ballet’s Nutcracker on Saturday with my oldest son Kyle.  This is probably the 3rd or 4th time I have seen this performance but I never tire of it and it seems to be getting better and better each time I see it.

The music is beautiful and I own the Nutcracker on CD and cassette tape (yes, I still listen to cassettes).  The performances and the scenery were spectacular.  So much so, that at one point, I teared up.  It was just SO magical!  I’m sure the ballerinas must feel like it is a dream come true for them.  How can you NOT feel beautiful with such a gorgeous costume, a tiara, and you are just dancing your heart out?

It lasted 2 hours and I bought yet another Nutcracker there.  This year I have started collecting Nutcrackers.  I just think they are so beautiful.  The one I got is gold and has sequins.  I will try and post a pic later.

My son also enjoyed the Nutcracker immensely.  It really got me in the holiday spirit.  Afterwards we went to see my Aunt Bea who lives in DC and then we went down to the National Mall to see the big Christmas tree.  It was good weather so there were LOTS of people out and about.

I believe this should become a holiday tradition for our family.  If you have never gone to see the Nutcracker, I encourage you to go sometime, at least once.  You may end up falling in love with it just like me.
