The Omen

It is a highly unusual thing...I’ve been looking at the red and orange leaves of the turning maple leaves above me and the blooming azaleas and cotoneaster in the yard.  It just makes me want to say one thing:

Azaleas and cotoneaster bloom in April.  Yet, here they are, in full flower.  And the leaves are turning, as they should.  These two things should NEVER occur at the same time.

But they are.

I don’t know what to make of it.  It could be weather or climate related.  It could be one of those “old wives” things that every seventy-two years this is supposed to occur.  But me?  Well, I’m an X-Files kinda girl and I want to read something supernatural into it.  Armageddon.  Aliens.  The Cleveland Indians.  Something.

I could get all esoteric or something and say that it is a harbinger of a change in our country...the “New Millenium” arriving a few years too late.  Or say that it’s ushering in a new age, politically.  Or I could take it more personally and say that it’s a sign unto me to change my life.  Which is VERY appealing, I might add, as I am pretty damn bored right now.

Instead, I’ll probably use it as an excuse to have a few beers. And, after I get a little tipsy, ask anyone within earshot, “If David Duchovney just got out of rehab for sex addiction, where was I when he needed a ‘fix‘?”
