Ok I’m flying on a long flight (13 hours) from San Francisco to Seoul. Saved up all my pennies to go, traveling economy class of course. We‘re about 30 minutes into the flight, I’m settled in my seat trying to get comfortable, I push the button to recline my seat back. Suddenly I get a tap on my shoulder. It was the lady (looked to be mid-20’s) seated directly behind me who asked if I would put my seat back up. So thinking she needed to reach down under the seat to get something, I return my seat to the upright position. I didn’t hear her moving around back there so about 20 minutes later I recline my seat again. She asked me again to put my seat back up. I look at her with a puzzled face not saying anything. Then she continues by saying, there’s not enough room back here if you lean your seat back. At this point I’m thinking all kinds of things, but biting my tongue of course. I was baffled that this lady would ask such a thing! On a 13 hour flight no less! So all I end up saying to her was that there was no way I would choose to be uncomfortable by sitting upright the entire flight and that I had just as much room as she did and paid at least the same amount of money for my ticket that she paid. When I was done I simply turned back around settled back into my seat and pushed the button again to recline back, only this time she had put her feet or knees (or something) up against my seat so it couldn’t recline. I pushed back harder and reclined just a little. But still I didn’t say anything more, nor did I let her know she was getting to me (even though she was!). I waited about 20 minutes then I pushed the button again and with all my might pushed to recline all the way back! tongue out

The unfortunate thing for me was that I felt like I had a 3 year old behind me. For the rest of the 13 hour flight she would bump and jolt my seat (it was very obvious she did it intentionally) and quite frequently. I just kept my cool and didn’t say anything, didn’t want to make a fuss or scene on the flight. But boy, was she a bully!

    • How crazy that she would be that grouchy about it.  Also I am sure if she had leaned her seat back, she would have been comfortable.

    • Rose, you and I are very much alike in our temperament and I know it’s hard for us to speak up and express our displeasure in situations like this. I think I would have been seething at this. I don’t know what I would have done but I think I may have said something to the flight attendant. But then in the actual situation often times I just clam up. I hope the skies are more friendly for your flight home!

    • Rose, that was very rude of that women.  One thing I’ve learn over the years is that when someone tries to bully you around you have to stand up for yourself and I’m glad you did. All I have to say is Karma it alway bites the other person in the ass!
Have a good visit, now exhale and pray to God she isn’t on your return flightestatic

    • Looking back I SHOULD have said something to the flight attendants. But the flight was so full I looked around and the only other empty seat I could see was in the same row as a family with 2 young kids, and though I love kids I also know how well they travel on 13 hour flights! Besides I already had one sitting behind me! LOL happy

I plan to have a much smoother flight home, using points to upgrade to economy plus. Woo-hoo! Five more inches of invaluable space! ...it’s like gold!! happy

    • There is always a bad apple in the bunch..honestly, flying on an airplane is cramped and not pleasurable as it is, so why makes things worse..you were actually very nice to that young woman, I probably would have gotten up and asked the attendant to move that person to another seat because she has foul gas that is making me ill!estaticestatic

    • Oh you’ve got a much better temper than I do when it comes to flying!  I would have been nice in the beginning as you were.  After seeing her reclined, etc. I would have told her what the other’s said that “we both have the same room, etc.“.  When she started bumping the back of your seat.....it would have been on!   I have no problem telling people in the movie theatre to knock it off when they keep hitting the back of my chair.  So frustrating!!!!
