Today...out of the blue I started thinking about how long I have been out of high school.  Why this thought...I have no clue.  This coming May (end of May) I will have been out of high school for 27 years.  I cannot believe it.  Where did the time go?  I can remember when my mother went to her 50th high school class reunion and I thought good Lord...that is a long time.  Well it is but now that I have almost 27 behind me...it really isn’t.  Look how quickly a month goes by.  It’s March and it seems we were all just talking about Christmas.  If a year goes by this fast...and the average life span for an individual is 75 years of age...that means we are not here for long at all.

So I ask myself am I really living my life to the fullest?  I don’t think I am.  Now this is all leads me to my decision whether to go on a mission trip in NOvember or not.  It is to Guatemala to help with the church that our local church built there.  They are having a “vacation Bible school” for the children and I would be teaching in the morning and afternoon for a week.  I think this is something I should do. Step out of my comfort zone and experience something so totally different.  It’s only $1200 for me to go...that includes airfare..hotel..everything.  I think I should go.

    • If this is tugging at your heart, Mary, and the money would not cause your family hardship, I say follow your instincts. You know, I just thought of a fairly new member on fab40 who does this kind of thing all the time. I’m going to look for her blog and post it for you. It may give you further inspiration to take on this experience.

    • maryclark....follow your heart.  I believe you will enhance and touch so many lives if you decide to go.  Like chocolatier stated, if it causes you or your family no financial hardship, then go for it!

    • Cynthia...thanks for sending me that link.  I watched the whole Youtube video she had on there.  I just really feel that is what I’m suppose to do.  I’ve had these thoughts of mission work for years but have always dismissed them thinking I wasn’t good enough to go.  Well..after talking to the guy at our church who is over missions....he made it sound so easy and told me I should go.  My boss/good friend was right there with me when I was talking to him and she said, “Mary you can do this...we can raise the money.”

The money isn’t the issue at all.  I can raise the money so it won’t be a hardship on my family.  I really have nothing that is keeping me from going.  It’s the first week in November...of course I will miss my mother’s 83rd birthday if she lives til then....but it will be okay.

I would hate to live my life and come to a place when I couldn’t go and regret it if I didn’t go.  I think probably the one thing I’m afraid will happen is...I’ll go and I’ll never want to come back...LOL.

Thanks to all of you for your support and suggestions.

    • A prayer from St. Teresa of Avila (1515–1582)

      Christ Has No Body

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
      Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
      compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.

    • I believe you would totally LOVE the trip.  I say this because my step mother has gone and done the same thing in Guatamala with her church.  They are building an orphanage over there.  She too has to pay for her airfare and room & board.  Her last trip she went to Walmart to buy clothing for some of the kids.  She said their eyes just lit up when she pulled out the new clothes.  She has wonderful memories, get’s so much out of helping people less fortunate than her and is going back again next year for the 3rd year in a row.

    • Mary, you will never regret this. I can speak first hand. I have been leading youth on mission trips for 8 years all over the US and have been to Guyana, South America and Africa 4 times. I believe in this so much I have started my own non-profit for global outreach in Tanzania.

One of the best ways to get to know our neighbors is to meet them. Walks side by side with them. And learn from each other.

You will be blessed beyond measure!
