Ok I haven’t watched Ophra for a long time. I got tired of hearing her “counsel” people on issues she knows nothing about like marriage and children. She “adopts” every new spiritual fad out there as a cure to fix your life. First it was “The Secret” then her online classes for  Eckhart Tolles “A new Earth“. The problem I have is that she drags millions of people on these journeys bound for happiness but obviously hasn’t found it herself which is obvious by her 40 lb weight gain. Now, please, before I get a thousand emails bashing me, let me finish. This is only my opinion!!
Lately I’ve seen Ophra talking about how she fell off the wagon and how she feels so bad about it that she was going to do (again) a Best Life Week of shows. I thought, what the heck, this time maybe she will get real and show some true emotion and get down to the nitty gritty. I even taped todays show, but as I sat there listening to her talk it was the same BS as before. I saw not one tear as she spoke, or should I say as she once again informed us of what we need to do to get healthy again. As one of her assistants showed us her “new shedule with more “her time” on it then showing us her new diet that will be cooked by her personal chef, to watching her workout in her personal gym all I could think of was “this is just another show to get ratings“. She kept talking about “balance” but I think to myself this is a single women with no children, what the heck does she have to balance??? She works, end of story and she has enough money where she could take off the rest of her life and have all the “me time” she wants. I feel sorry for her, it is obvious that her self esteem comes from her work and what she does. We always know what charities she has donated to and what charity work she does because she always tells us, complete with pictures. It is obvious that she is so afraid to lose her T.V. show that she won’t give it up even though by her own words she is on heart medication, blood pressure meds and tyhroid meds.
I have struggled with weight myself for a long time,I know what it’s like to lose weight and feel so good only to gain it back plus some. But unlike Ophra, I don’t have a personal trainer a personal chef and a at home gym at my disposal. I work 40 hours a week, and have a family I take care of. I have to stretch the little money we have to feed us 7 days a week and a gym is a completely frivolous expense. Most night I fall exhausted into be and then get up and start all over again. I live in a 1978 Mobile home so forgive me if I don’t feel sorry for Ophra. She said today “I didn’t practice what I preached“. How about taking a year off, facing your own demons and then after you’ve actually done it you can come back (hopefully with some real humility) and be honest for once. The thing that scares me the most is that this is a women who has the power to influence so many people.
On that note I will stop ranting. In her defense I do know that there are people she has helped through difficult times, but I will be most impressed when she does it for herself.

    • i remember when her show first came out, i watched it thinking, “she needs a friend, a real friend. i want to be that friend.”  I haven’t watched her show since, ‘cause like sassy said, the false nature of it, turned my stomach.  her influence is too far-reaching for someone to act that flakily.  she is an intelligent women, but we all know that intelligence doesn’t lend itself to common sense or self-esteem.  i’ve heard sound-bytes of her blasting sports stars for “abusing their influence,” ahm HELLO LADY, take a long look in the mirror! you know what it boils down to, she needs JESUS, ‘cause nobody here on earth is equipped to handle the tangled mess that is her mind, soul and ego.

    • I DVR her show, this gives me the opportunity to sieve through, watch what is informational and discard the others.

The sooner she comes to grips with the fat that she will probably be never a skinny woman, the better it will be for all of America.

Think about it, whatelse does she have to complain about, she is financially set for life, she can’t have kids, nothing to complain about, she has many houses over her head, so she must find something to fuss about...

The other day while on line at the checkout in Walmart, there was a rag which had an article that said, she was blaming Michelle Obama for her most recent weight gain...how stupid...I didn’t read the trash, but I thought it was funny....LOL

In a restaurant one evening, she was sitting near my husband and I with her entourage. I was not impressed.

She purchased a long standing B&B and said she had the intention of keeping it as it always was in its original charm. it’s been sitting there in disrepair for a few years now with a very ugly tarp like fence - eyesore for a nice neighborhood. Well, saturday we noticed the place was leveled, gone, vacant, reduced to rubble.

The ugly fence, however, still stands tall.

    • I must join in on this convo...I was also frustrated with Oprah’s show today.  Her revelation today was not necessarily about her weight gain...it was the fact that she is realizing she has to “love herself first“....OMG...Oprah is going through a Mid-life Crisis!

I have been preaching this to women on my blogs and in my forum for years now.  I have even written to her producers telling them about my books and my blogs where I discuss this extensively.

I knew something was up with her when recently she has been featured crying at every event that she attends, ie.  the opening of Tyler Perry’s Studio, Sidney Poiter’s American Treasure or Hero Award Ceremony(whatever that thing is called) and most recently at Barack Obama’s Campaign Victory speech.

I know that a lot of women are over Oprah...and at times, even I  still will watch her show when I can pull a good commentary for my blog.  It frustrates me that there are so many people out there who are saying the very same things...but no one pays attention until Oprah discovers that loving yourself first is the key to life!

Don’t even get me going on “The Secret“...“Why Men Cheat” and her promotion of her Favorite Things shows.  I do like Dr. Oz.

Oprah needs a break...if she is in MLC...she needs to take time for herself...

Hey! Oprah you are welcome to become a member at the [Link Removed] forum too. Many of the women there have just recently discovered that they have to "love themselves first" too!

    • On another post I also stated that I was not an Oprah fan.  I admit at first when she made her mark on the whatever you wnat to call them shows....(I can’t think of their names)...she seemed genuine.

Now....to me...she looks down on her guests.  It’s like she is saying...you should be so honored to be on my show.  That is what I see.

She has done well for herself.  There is no denying that but that power and fame has gone straight to her head.

If someone is genuine in their actions they do not need “cudos” for doing it or for everyone to know what they have done.  She wants everyone to know what money she has given away...etc.

Just goes to show you all the money in the world won’t buy you happiness, success, weight loss....or love.  It’s very sad in my opinion.

I can live without the show....I think it’s time for her to move on......

She has done this weight loss thing in the limelight and lost a few times now. Doesn’t she know that insanity is repeating the same thing and expecting different results?? I would want to quietly slip away, deal with my issues and get healthy and then come back AFTER I’ve lost the weight and kept it off for a while!! She continues to try to do this in front of millions of people probably thinking that it will help her do it knowing she is under the microscope. If that is her thinking than she isn’t doing it for herself, she is doing it for her viewers and once again she won’t succeed. Now if she wants to offer me a trip to he house in Hawaii, and use of her chef and personal trainer for a couple of months I might change my opinion of her LOL!!!!!!!

    • How long has her show been on?

Donahue use to be the longest running show if it’s kind..talk show.  Can’t remember how many years he was on...but if she hasn’t passed him is she trying to be longest running talk show?  Hmmm...

I think she should quit the show...concentrate on herself...and do something else.  I think people have gotten their fill of self help shows...with Dr. Phi...and whoever else.

Jerry Springer....I really like the guy when he is not on his show.  I hate his show.
      Ellen...I like...Maury..it’s trashy now too.

I think the talk shows are getting old.  That’s just my opinion.  I certainly do not watch any of them..maybe Ellen some if the tv is on.

Has anyone seen the show Ruby on the Style network?

My opinion is that I think she has come along way...from meager beginnings to where she is today....we are all human and struggle with our personal battles and just because she is rich and powerful doesn’t exempt her from that...and in spite of all that she still finds time to spend time work with plenty of different charities...many people choose careers over marriage and children perhaps she is one of those people...we all make personal choices and she made hers...

My secret wish would be to attend her giveaway show...the gifts she gives out...wow...only in my dreams...lol

    • I'm sorry but in the UK Oprah show just wouldn't wash in the UK ........we love someone who will try but Oprah almost seems to have manic like zeal over every topic she encounters and you know her life is never going to be like yours ........

Another person who fascinates me but would never take off in the UK is Martha Stewart ....

I think what I'm trying to say in the UK woman have realised that they can't have it all –home- hubby- great job- loads of shiny kids ............so we just juggle and accept that. So someone telling us that in March we should be soaking fruit ready for the perfect Christmas cake in December would be told to get a life....

Also its been widely reported about Oprah interviewing novelists whose book is later found out to be a scam or actual fiction ....

Karyn...I’m with you.  Btw...I love Oprah...I think she is beautiful...like every other person I meet.  I haven’t watched her in a couple years, but years ago I had an Ah moment while watching one of her shows and there is a direct relationship between that moment and who/where I am today.

Like everything else in life...I take what’s for me and leave the rest...I always try to not pass judgment on anyone...because I know that we all have our issues.
