Here are my three:

1.  Not pursuing my dream of a Graphic Design artist after graduating from high school.  My parents didn’t want me attending college because of the expense and also they felt being a womnan—my place was to marry and have kids.  I regret not pursuing this career diligently on my own.

2.  I WAS an impulse buyer for many years!  Had I not wasted so much money on things I didn’t need, I could have had a good sum of $$ for retirement.

3.  I attended a trade school and went through 7 months of crap for something I wasn’t even interested in.  I was semi-interested, but I thought it would “grow” on me, but it didn’t.  I couldn’t find a decent job in this career unless I worked at an affluent area.  I am literally paying off this annoying debt and boy do I regret it!

What are your regrets?

    • I went to trade school and got a really good education in a field I was interested in and then didn’t pursue a career.  Had I pursued that career, I’d probably be my husbands boss today instead of an itenerant cook.

    • That’s great!  I know you can get a good education attending trade school, but  not what I took.

What kind of cook are you?

    • Not quite sure that I regret anything.  Everything is a lesson learned and happened for a reason.

    • That is true - a lesson learned, but in my case I think I could have done much better in life had I pursued my dream. But, oh well - life goes on and I am passionate about certain things now and am going to arduously pursue.

This site has helped me immensely getting back on my feet.

    • I have no true regrets. I only wish that I did not lose my identity when I became a wife and mother, but like Maverick, this site along with the love and support of my friends and family is helping me to find the true ME.

    • Not getting a college degree when I had the chance to go full time and have it all paid for.

Accomodating everyone else’s schedule and shortchanging myself and my dreams in the process

Giving a decade of my life to a verbally abusive idiot

    • Not regret, but wish I had done differently

      1. Making someone more important to me than I was to them.
      2. Not spending more time with my Grandmother while she was alive.
      3. Not pursuing my dreams when I was younger

But I have learned that I cannot change the past, so I forgive myself and move forward.

    • I agree with Doreen that “Everything is a lesson learned and happened for a reason.” But I can’t help but have some regrets...not finishing up my social work degree...putting a man in front of my children...being too much of a lone wolf...but that’s me...happy

    • Guess I only listed one.
      the other two would be
      2) I left my ex and then went back to him for 6 1/2 yr “for the kids“.  I regret that.  Life would have been better in the long run if I’d left him for good the first time.

      3) Not fighting for what was mine when I did get divorced.  I took a financial beating and I’m still paying the price 7 yrs later.

Maverick, to answer your question, I’ve cooked at half a dozen cafes (mom and pop, family type, steakhouse, etc) around the area, been a ranch cook, and done some catering.  I’m good at it, but certainly not my field of study!!!!   I have an associates degree in Agri-business.  I went from feeding cows to feeding people.  Not a change for the better as far as I’m concerned.
