I just did A random search for my name and i was surprised/angry that a company out there on the web has my info out there with a price tag on it! wt? as my son says.
I read some of its info and it sounds like the company gets the info from public records. But who gives them the right to collect all my data and sell it? Background check? hmmm that is what the company says it’s about or is it? Who put all the data together and input it? What do u think and have you checked out your name?

    • Thats a little scary to say the least - I know in the UK it will only mention on the Internet if your a director of a limited company - nothing else.

If you search my real name and my maiden name you see loads about me ....... but it’s to be exepected I ran a huge business .....

    • My X has googled my name in the past and came up with my posted comments on this site.....it was not a pretty confrontation at the time. I have done it recently and cannot find any references to this site anymore....but you always need to be aware that the potential is out there for anything/everything you do to become public domain.

    • I checked- my website, my blogspot blog, this site, facebook, linkdin, shutterfly, and two blogs I follow and have commented on.  Wow. Isn’t there anything more exciting going on on the web for google to pick up?

I will tell you that I shut down my reunion.com listing b/c they do gather information for another one of their search for people sites and sell it and I didn’t feel comfortable for my cc numbers and my associations being transparent there.

    • If I google my real name I only get things about a hall or classical music.
I get more when I google my nickname...

    • I have done a lot of family history research and have transcribed many old documents.  When I Google my name some of the websites I’ve posted to show up as do my own websites.

Yahoo will be shutting down its free Geocities websites over the summer.  This means either I find another free webhosting service, pay Yahoo $4.99 a month to host my site or delete it.  I haven’t decided yet.

    • I get Susan Sullivan the actress mostly.  Last time I did it, got nothing on me at all.

Companies that “sell” information they don’t have a right to makes me crazy...whether it’s selling public record info or genealogical.  I hate ancestry.
