Nothing really. But both were pretty exciting elements of my day so I’d like to share.

The idea of branding has been popular for awhile now. It’s seen as an important step in the success of a business. I’ve wanted to pursue it but had no real place to start. Today I had a call from a young woman who graduated from my husband’s school 10 years ago and went on to become a graphic designer on the mainland before moving back to Maui. She’s coming over here tomorrow to discuss ways she may be able to help me brand my business and provide me with some marketing tools such as a brochure and “menu” of my chocolates. I’ll keep you posted and pass on any tidbits of information to other members who have a business or want to get into business.

So on to another aspect of my day, marzipan. Over that past few months I’ve had a lot of requests for marzipan. It’s strange. I’m not aware of marzipan being a trend of any kind in the confectionery world and I haven’t heard anything on the news about it being good for you. But customers have been asking for it. Even on my recent trip to California I went into a fancy chocolate shop in Fashion Island and saw logs of marzipan plain and enrobed in dark chocolate.

So today I pulled out a confectionery “bible” from the culinary arts institute and made their master recipe for marzipan. And then in the spirit of what I do for work, I covered it in chocolate. It’s not pretty, it will be when I make it part of my selection, but it tasted good.

I’d love to hear any thoughts out there on both branding and marzipan. What do you think of either one of them?

Love it
