I don’t feel old. I don’t think of myself as being old.

But.....

At my job we have a huge age division.  It’s just by chance, but half the employees are over 45 and the other half are under 25. I think the only person in the warehouse that’s in his 30s is the asst manager.  So, in the eyes of half of my co-workers, I’m old.

The two people who work directly with me are 25 and 55.  And the other day the 25 year old was just awed that we remembered space missions that she’s only seen documentaries about.  She didn’t know that Reagan was ever shot.  She didn’t know there wasn’t such a thing as meth when we were her age.   After that afternoon’s conversation, I felt really old.

And then last night I went out with my co-workers.  And we ended up at a bar where the young desperate men and overweight girls with low self esteem hang out.  The dj was just playing noise.  I don’t know how to dance anymore... I felt really old.

It’s not someplace I’d have gone, but a friend of mine who is my age talked me into it.  We were by FAR the oldest people there.  We found out our boss is younger than our oldest kids.   I felt really old.

And then some drunk kid who is a friend of one of my young co-workers looked at me and said I was pretty old “you must be like 30”   LOL!   Made my day!!!!!

    • In my head, I don’t feel old, and I don’t see old when I look in the mirror, but the pain I feel physically is what makes me feel old.( Mostly since my ankle surgery )

When I’m around the 20 somethings at work, and hear the conversations, I just have to shake my head, lol. They have no clue what life is about yet, but neither did I back then.

When I’m with my parents ( in their 70’s) it makes me really sad to see them ageing.

My best buddy co-worker is approaching 30 and we get along well. Well, I have a good rapport with the kids too and they do make me feel young even though some ask me if I’m a grandma.

When I’m with my parents it makes me sad to know that’s my future.

    • Yes, we are getting up there in age, but it is just a number and I see so many great looking women 50 and over..taking walks, involved in youthful activities, trying new hairstyles and make-up, concerned about their diets.  The young kids have nothing on us..we have maturity and memories, something they must acquire as they age.happy

    • i think old is one of those words that is too stereo-typical when one reaches certain ages.  the only time i have felt old is when i have been unwell.  in a couple of months i will be 50...i still have moments of stupidity, i have bouts of childishness, i shout when i could be calmer, giggle hilariously when perhaps i should be more restrained...this is what i can say... i am so annoyed with my slow growing hair that is turning grey....i want it to hurry and get all grey instead of that grey brown black look..

    • I forgot to add, and then I went to church yesterday. And I am just a baby compared to most of our congregation. The guy who I sit and drink coffee with at 8 am is going to be 80 in March.  Yup, I’m just a baby.

    • I remember being 18 and thinking 30 was old.  But at 42, I really don’t feel old.  Physically I feel great.  At work my team lead and coworker are 1 year old than me.  Then there is a guy who is 30 and another guy in his mid 30s.  We all get along okay.

@Tulip- In my previous church in Linden, a lot of the congregation was significantly older, retired.  At one of the services, Kyle was the only kid there. :(

    • Yeah, Diane, there have been Sundays when no kids are at church and at 45, I am the youngest person present.
