I’m fascinated by the spaces that we create to be creative in!

This is where I create anything that has to do with paint, pencil, charcoal, ribbon, glue, markers, beads, stones, metal or wire- pretty much anything I can make a mess with- I use in this room that we refer to as my studio but it used to be the guest room before the boys left the nest.

It’s nothing extravagant.  My son made my table with adjustable metal saw horses so I can stand or sit and work. I stained the top and sealed it.

Everything I need I can reach from my perch here.

All my chalks, charcoal, pencils are in one place.

My Fat Max is under the table and holds all my paints.

Ribbon is everywhere! Hanging over me, around Sir Monty the Zebra, on my spindles... I have a ribbon thing.

Everything has a place.  I love that about it.  I have my own tools in this room- some tools my husband doesn’t even have- which delights me!

And some things that comfort me are in here.

When I was working on the illustrations for my book this afternoon I was thinking how fortunate I am to have two spaces in our home that are entirely mine. I have the studio and I have my office.  They are each a sanctuary of creativity of some variety.

I enjoy these spaces so much and they are personal to me so I thought I would share some pics of the studio with you today.

This little baby plays Claire De Lune, which is my Daddy’s favorite tune. I gave it to my grandmother when she was in the nursing home- she liked leapord print. After she died, this sweet girl came back to live with me.

This is the book I have a June 1st deadline to finish the illustrations for.

So, where do you create?  I’d love to see the personal creative space you’ve created! Tomorrow, maybe we can share office pictures!

    • So beautiful Laurie! I didn’t know you were writing a blog, you are so clever with the layout of it, I just love that about you! I was commenting on the pictures that I found you had posted, see even the bottled brunettes have these issues.

I love the names you have given Sir Monty the Zebra and Claire De Lune, I will have to tell my daughter that she will like it too.

Boy oh boy I have got to get a digital camera or walk around with this laptop taking pictures!! I have my art supplies and office supplies in a huge corner computer desk. And then in storage cabinets that are clear plastic so I can see inside when I’m frantically looking for whatever it is I must, simply must have for the project I’m working on. And then I have 6 huge clear plastic tubs stacked to ceiling with yarn. Yes, you know it now, I am a yarn horder..

    • Time to start an inspiration notebook:

I’ll show you mine and you’ll see what I mean.

Every time something starts whirling around in my head I grab this notebook and I start a sketch of it.  So I won’t lose it it when I have my next random thought!

It’s also a nice thing for me to have when I get in a funk and think I don’t do anything important for a living like other business women do-

When I spend a little time looking through that notebook I am filled with joy that I am doing exactly what I was designed to do.

    • I had a gift basket business in the late 90’s, Karyno.
The first Christmas I did them I was blessed but unprepared for my first corporate account!

Every basket hand packed , every bow hand made, and the baskets were lined up like little soldiers from the front door through the dining room, up the stairs, through the family room, rec room, office, back down the stairs. LOL!

I thought my husband was going to kill me that Christmas!

I should send them to Traci.

    • Wow, what a great space Laurie! I don’t have pictures of my workshop. I’m always too embarassed by how messy it is to take a picture.

Two years ago I remodeled our one car garage and turned it into a “third bedroom“.  It’s never been used for anything but my workshop since.  It’s so crammed full it’s ridiculous.  Sewing in one corner, art in one corner.  Tools and shop stuff all along one wall.  Plants and garden stuff in front of the patio doors.

Barely room to walk, but it’s my happy place.  Just walking in there can cheer me up.

    • omg laurie your scissor rack gave me the chills!! lol I’m shaking here....i want one of those!!

Every room in our house is packed...kids ya know. So, I took over the formal dining area and table for all my crafting things. We do not really do ‘formal’ so I felt why not use the space for something fun. We are actually going to be re-arranging the rooms so my area will be in with the family room area.

You see only up until 9 mos ago i rarely left my room. Everything I did was done from my bed. Then one day I said ENOUGH!! Somehow designing jewelry followed. Got my new wheelchair and got moving.

And those zebra beads...LOVE them. Really if they need a good home, i’m your girl. Then they will be made into something wicked for daphnes dd.

When i get my coffee injected into my veins, I’ll get a pic of my ‘place‘.

And Daphne, I love your ‘mini-lon’ (my new name for your awesome lil salon) lol

I dooooon’t have no skill here in the jewelry department- cuz I have no patience for the close work.

So I may need to be donating my zebra beads to an up and coming Zebra fancier and send them to the designer extraordinaire... cuz I think the silver chain would be gorgeous!

    • Good for you MzTracy! It has to be terrible to be confined like that, your jewelry is just beautiful and you have a natural talent with it. I am like Laurie, I just can’t work with those little beads. When I get a chance, and find them, I will see what beads I have and send them to you too. I tried beading and found it wasn’t for me. I think I have some neat ones tucked away somewhere...

Laurie - I am coveting those scissors along with MzTracy!! I also love your notebook!! I have got to make one! Right now I have scraps of paper all over the place and ideas written down in I don’t know how many places. This is a great idea to get it all in one place! I wonder, did you go to school for art? Or take classes? Your art is so beautiful and your space also shows your creativity. No Artist - Pffffft as Jenz says!

Daphne - your space is great! So professional! I wish you lived near, I would come by and have you get me beautiful.

Tuliplady - I want to see too!!
