A week ago today I had foot surgery (again).  I thought it was going to be an easy one - but it has been really tough.  The bright side is I only have three more weeks of non-weight bearing and crutches...and only 7 more weeks in this boot.

I have had so many surgeries in the past few years I can’t even keep track anymore...It’s just one thing after another.  Am I ever going to be able to go the gym again?

This afternoon as I was sitting on the couch with my foot propped up on pillows - being a good girl and bored out of my mind...I was just trying to figure out how come every time I think my life is going to be normal again or I can do some of the things I want to do - something comes a long and literally trips me up in one way or another.  Maybe I need to look up the definition of normal??

This last incident/surgery is from something that happened 20 years ago when my daughter was only 2 years old.  I was refinishing an oak dresser and I dropped the drawer on my foot and broke all five toes.  I being young - just had the er dept buddy tape the toes and went on with life.  I was busy so just didn’t have time to deal with it.  They told me someday they may have to be fixed.  Fastforward 20 years...payback to being young and not taking the time to care I guess.  I now have pins in three toes and a screw in the side of my foot...fun!  So much for the gym membership.

I don’t know if this made any sense...but it did feel good to get it out.

Thanks for giving me the space and the space for new friends.

    • Hi
I can relate. I just came home from the hospital after my 3rd knee surgery in a little less than 12 mos. I was in a car accident that crushed my knee. Had a 4 hour surgery last Nov to re-break my tibia, reattach the tendon and screw me together. In April I had to have the knee cleaned out as scar tissue invaded my space :) and stopped my knee from bending...I couldn’t bend it more than 20 degrees. This week I had to have the screws removed and more scar tissue cleaned. The screws were catching on the ligaments and tendons as they pushed out of my bone.
It’s been a long, depressing year. I’ve been in either a walker, crutches or more recently with a cane for almost a year. I am now back on crutches for awhile. I walk funny....and need a knee replacement. This was the woman who jumped, ran, danced and did just about anything in 4” heels. Now I am soooo slow, in pain 24 hours a day and have something called RSD...a nerve mis-firing that causes my lower leg and foot to be freezing cold and numb much of the day.
I am right there with you.....I am sorry for what you‘re going thru. I’ve got a group on this site for “naughty knees” but maybe we can change it to “too many surgeries“. LOL.
Anytime you’d like to gripe, you‘re more than welcome to. I’m so understanding of how you feel!

    • Jill and Cheryl..
I will say a prayer your pain is minimal and your healing is fast and that a full recovery is nearer than it may seem!
      God Bless you both!
      Friends,

    • Hi, Cheryl - I totally understand!  I have had 7 surgeries on the same knee in the past 8 years...and three foot and ankle surgeries on the same leg in the past 4 years...I think before long I should be the new bionic woman.  They told me I should have a knee replacement after the last knee surgery in January - but suggested waiting as long as possible because there were so many new things coming out on the horizon - so I am waiting!

I did look at your group - I think I wil definitely have to join it!!!

      Have a great evening!
      Jill
