Folks chuckle when they say things about the way women gather about each other; laugh and generally have a great time together! Many times, their comments are not that complimentary.

Yesterday was truly a time when many of our AWI Connection Station “sisters” came together; hugged, laughed & crowded around each other in front of our display at the Indy Chocolate & Blues event. I found myself repeating the phrase “Band of Sisters” often. Because it truly was a “band of sisters“.

And to top it all off - there were the “sisters” and some “brothers” from Twitter who gathered with us to share in our joy and excitement of seeing & greeting each other at the event. The energy filled the entire room (the room was huge) and centered at the display just inside the door off the main hallway.

Women are truly powerful when we come together about a common cause! And it’s not selfish or self-centered to have that cause be about us. About Affiliated Women & The Station. The joy of recognizing those we’ve only come to know via a photo on the STATION or a face at Twitter is beyond description!

As I recover from a very long day & a night in which sleep eluded me for several hours; I’m uncommonly amazed at the strides we are making as women! Some may not think that is true - but after yesterday, I’m more convinced than ever. I’m reminded of the old ‘Virginia Slim’ slogan - “You’ve Come A Long Way Baby!”

We have come a long way - and yet there is much still to do! We haven’t acquired the W.H. yet, but we will. We don’t head major international corporations much as yet, but we will. We haven’t achieved “equal pay for equal work of males” as yet, but that too will come!

It won’t happen sooner rather than later if we fail to come together as “band of sisters“. None of us can do it alone. There’s too much energy lost playing the game of life as a solo-enterprise!

Remember that great film - “The First Wives Club“? It was so funny, but rather ironic as well. In the end, they turned their scheme to right the ‘wrongs’ of husbands-gone-astray into a phenomenal opportunity for other women less fortunate. I love the ending where they lock arms, kick up their heels and sing a great song - the title which I can’t remember. (Just came to mind- “Don’t Tell Me What To Do!”

Well I’m not recommending the theme of the film for our lives - but I do love the metaphor for woman-power when it turns to “women-power“.

I’m basking in it today! Truly basking in what I saw, felt & experienced yesterday. Not for myself, but for what we’ve begun - together!

So as we wind up another week - the last week of the first quarter of our SUCCESSful ‘09 theme. . . let’s take a moment and thank our “band of sisters” for what they mean to us. And then promise them and ourselves that we won’t quit until all of us have accomplished our dreams, desires & destinies!

And of course, let it begin with me. . . . THANK YOU-THANK YOU to an awesome Band of Sisters!

Much love,

Linda, a fellow journeyer
