There’s something fascinating about those automated walkways! You know, the moving sidewalks one finds in some airports.

I was delighted to find them in the new Indy Airport terminal when heading to Florida. Takes the physical energy out of tugging with hand luggage and other items one carries on a plane.

I find them to be a life ‘metaphor‘. What I see is that life and the experiences we have as we tred the hours, days, weeks, and years we breath & take nourishment on the planet, has it’s moments when we must move leg muscles to get from one point to the next.

Just as we think we can’t take another step; along comes an “automated walkway“. Simply step on and let it carry you to your next destination.

It’s fun to watch those who join you there. Some hop on and continue to exercise the leg muscles while the walkway moves beneath their feet. Others start with that motion in mind. . . then settle back against the rail for a few moments rest. I used to be like the former; now I’ve decided to settle back and let the walkway carry me forth! After all, isn’t that what it’s for?

And there’s a rthymn with the metaphor. Walk of our own volition using our own muscles and stride. Then slow down and let life carry us onto the next step in the journey - giving our tired bodies & minds a much-needed rest.

The challenge (or “trick“) is to get in step with the rthymn. It takes time to do that. Just as we’ve learned how to pace ourselves so that we don’t wear out before journey’s end. . . along comes opportunities to simply “lean against the rail and ride the next ‘leg’ without any effort or striving“!

Until we get the sequencing down “pat“; we’ll use muscles we didn’t think we had when the sidewalk is ‘static’ underfoot. And we’ll continue to “strive forward” under our own steam when we could rest and let the journey carry us forward.

Our individual life pathway to SUCCESS is strewn with this particular rthymn. I tend to think that the using-our-own-muscles-seasons are the “learning n’ training” seasons.

And the “ride the rail” seasons occur when we finally get it - and can take it easy momentarily as life carries us to the next course while we rest & prepare.

So make mental note to “pay attention” to the seasons of your SUCCESS as you move from point to point. Try to sense the ‘rthymn’ your life and plan is taking. Then get in step with it and . . . . let it roll!

Much love & may there be an automated walkway somewhere on your path this day!
