Last night I went over to my sister, Gayle’s house who lives over in Augusta.  After leaving her house I decided at the last minute to run into Michaels Craft Store to see if they had black cup cake holders.  I made a quick decision to go and whipped into the Best Buy parking lot to turn around to go back toward Michaels.  When I drove by the front entrance I noticed a line of people w/folding chairs in front of the building.  They had sleeping bags and their “stuff“.  I thought to myself.  This is Monday night and people are camping outside a store for sales on Friday morning?????

Really???

People are going to miss Thanksgiving~spending time with their family or someone...just to get a “sale“?

Really???

People are wasting days of their lives sitting outside a store just to get a great sale on something they will never take with them when they die!! Sitting outside a store in a line no less to get a good deal on STUFF!!!

STUFF!!! I’m no different than anyone else...I love a good deal but I would NEVER in a million years sit outside a store for FREAKIN DAYS....just to get a good deal on STUFF that when I die will NEVER GO WITH ME...or it could get burned up in a fire....break...or I just grow tired of it....

Really????

All I have to say is some people most definitely have their priorities in the wrong order!!! To put STUFF before PEOPLE is just INSANE!!

    • frown  Maybe (let’s hope) best buy was having some sort of pre-thanksgiving sale.  Have to wonder about the mental state of people who will voluntarily wait in line to spend money.

    • Tulip...no..I found out this morning that there is some television that is going on sale Friday that normally retails for $800 and it’s going to be like $200 on Friday. And the first 100 people get it.

Ok..so it’s an awesome deal but my issue with it is...people will sacrifice precious time with family and friends over a Thanksgiving holiday for a material thing.  I know there are some people who don’t give a rat’s ass about Thanksgiving or it’s meaning...etc...but as a society we are quickly going down the drain because of materialism and losing sight being connected in relationships.  No wonder we have the divorce rate we have...the craziness is because we as a society have been disconnected with “healthy relationships“.  Lord..I’m getting on to another whole subject.  But...we’ve lost sight of the true meaning of Thanksgiving...and definitely of Christmas.frown

    • I agree with you 100% Mary!

I don’t even think it’s an awesome deal.  I mean we know in two years that tv will be $200 because it will be nearly obsolete anyway.

I’m a person who won’t stand in line for anything except maybe the ladies room.  Even forgetting the horrible materialism for a moment, I can’t imagine why these people would want to waste DAYS of their life on something like this!

    • Wow, I am blown away by this.  So, I am supposed to leave the comfort, security of my home to stand, sleep for days in the outdoors for a TV for $200.00 or some other materialistic thing.  Disconnected from family and loved ones to stand next to strangers who you will forget in a couple of days.  Jesus help us.  Their is not one thing in this world that mean so much to me to do something so foolish as to risk my life for something materialistic.

    • Thats alot of people there already. I was at Best Buy tonight and not even half of the people were there. But the night was still young...lol, When hubby and I were leaving, they had just started lining up. It’s too fricken cold out to be spending the night till Friday. I don’t understand that either. Give me a warm house, a table full of food and my family and I am HAPPYhappyhappyhappyheartheart

    • I have never ‘done’ the black friday thing. The closest I came to it was online last year and got some good deals. To leave my family and camp out in the cold, fight with people, and deal with all that stress is so not worth the few bucks you might save. [if you can beat the other shoppers to the punch]

      SO NOT WORTH IT!

But there was a smaller line....more like a line of chairs....and it’s raining this morning....absolutely INSANE!!

    • Wednesday nite my daughter and I passed Best Buy and we saw people camping out with their tents.

I looked right into the eyes of the lady who was first in line, I nodded and gave her a big smile. A big smile was returned. She was happy and I was so happy for her!

    • That is craziness!!  Yeah, I have never participated in Black Friday and have no desire to do so.  MaryClark I agree with you 100% that our society is so materialistic.  It’s a shame and seriously, why go through all that trouble to buy something that you can’t bring with you when you die!

I grew up poor and I’m actually grateful for the experience because it makes you appreciate the stuff you have.  There are things in this world that you can’t buy that I would rather have than the latest car, TV, phone, etc. like inner peace, happiness, love, health, family...you can’t BUY these things...they are priceless.
