Hello my friends,
Things are as hectic as ever here. I have my benefit this Saturday night being followed Sunday afternoon by the memorial service of one of my oldest and dearest friends.
Last Saturday afternoon my friend April was driving around the neighborhood with her daughter looking for her dogs who got out. She had a heart attack while driving, leaving Ashlee, her daughter, to try and brake the truck but could not because her mother had slumped over “dead weight, if you will” ( certainly no pun inteded here) and they drove through a fence and finally hit a tree at a high rate of speed before coming to a stop. I received a frantic phone call from my son , who is an EMT and was on the scene telling me what happened and that Ashlee ( age 15) was being collared and boarded and put into an ambulance apparantely in stable condition. April however was blue, unresponsive and not breathing. They intubated her and took her to a local hospital by ambulance where they continued to work on her and cat scanned her and stabilized her further to transport her to a trauma unit in a neighboring city. I met her ambulance at the first hospital and was allowed to see her for a few minutes before they transported her. Aprils son,Phil, also age 15 as him and Ash are twins, was with my son, Ryan, at weightlifting, my son had spent the night before at their home. They are together all the time, they are best friends! Anyway, Phil, did not want to go to the trauma unit, he wanted to come home with me and go up and see his mother later when she woke up. Well not long after getting home we got a call to get him to the hospital right away, April had had a massive heart attack and they were “working on her” well we flew up there as fast as we could and still be safe but we did not arrive in time. Poor Phil, he felt so bad but there was nothing anyone could do. We all got to visit with her after the nurses cleaned her up and got to say our goodbyes but I am heartbroken. We have been friends since 7th grade, 34 years, we got married and moved to the same town, our sons have played on all the same sports teams and attend high school together, she has been a Project Children host mother , our lives were very much entwined. i don’t know when the tears are going to stop. I am sorry this is so long. But thank you for letting me share this tragic story with you. I appreciate all your prayers and support for her and her family at this time, Phil sr, Phil jr and Ashlee. Her husband is lost, he really really loved her. Thank you!
Good night,
Ree
