Birdsong by Sebastian Faulkes was a brilliant book and I used to love anything by Mary Wesley. She didn’t start writing until she was in her 60s and beyond I believe. And of course, being based in Bath, Jane Austen, so clever and witty and wicked!
I love to knit but it’s mainly a winter activity for me, curled up on the sofa with something good (Agatha Christie) on TV!
I also love live theatre and recently did a marathon Shakespeare event in Stratford with my actor son. Four days of all the History plays! Plus, last summer, the amazing Edinburgh Festival with my daughter. Three weeks of drama of all sorts (very good, indifferent and frankly awful!) every day!
I love to garden and favour the slightly unplanned cottage garden look (I try to pretend that unplanned is a deliberate style....)
And I enjoy cooking but have got very experimental as I grow older. More confident I guess and less worried about making mistakes. I get a real buzz when creating a meal out of ‘nothing’ or from odds and ends of left overs!
Plus, I am fortunate enough to say that my work is also my passion and I love what I do for a living! That didn’t happen by accident and it took a while to get there but I have never been happier in my working life. I do a lot of reading and developing of myself around that.
