This year, I have taken my project to the airwaves. As with any project, it can stand a little refinement, but it has been a journey that has been well received. I have had guest speakers that have told their own story, as well as tackled various areas of domestic violence issues - male victim of domestic violence, vietamese culture in domestic violence, domestic violence in rural America, and much more. Feel free to tune in - go to blogtalkradio.com, search for real life radio, and look for my show on Saturday mornings (Beyond Words Live) at 9a-Texas time.
I read a lot of books on relationships and domestic violence due to my line of work, which I have a calling and passion for. When I can steal away for a good read, I love books by John Saul, Mary Higgins Clark, and many more.
One book that I LOVE recommending to those who have fallen prey to victims of crimes and/or circumstances—WHAT DOESNT KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER: TURNING BAD BREAKS INTO BLESSINGS, by Maxine Schnall. It’ll turn the viewpoint of every victim to victors!!
Anything but rap or extreme heavy metal. Just don’t see the point to rap. Words are so downgrading and dehumanizing. I would have thought they would have faded by the wayside by now. Some of the rappers are hearing the voices of the masses and are changing up the lyrics a bit, etc., but they are few and far in between.
