Hi Vikki!
You heard right, antibacterial cleansers are not always good. They are overused, only kill certain types of bacteria, and don’t discriminate between our normal bacteria and pathogens. If we kill healthy, normal bacteria that lives on our skin, it leaves room for bad bacteria to come along and occupy that space.
Flu virus can live on surfaces for 2 to 8 hours (CDC.org). Clorox wipes are good for cleaning shared surfaces at work. Alcohol based cleansers are most effective against flu.
Flu is transmitted through mucous membranes. It can be by inhaling droplets from someone who has sneezed or coughed - up to 6 feet!!!(CDC.org) Or, it can be from touching an infected surface and then touching our nose, mouth, or eyes. Frequent handwashing will keep the virus from entering us this way.
Thanks for asking! I think I’ll blog about flu today or tomorrow and share this information on the site. I absolutely love nursing school! I can’t believe how much I’m learning. I can’t wait to graduate and begin serving my community.
I hope all is well with you!!!!
