We see a shack with a porch,
      A yard bare of grass.
Ancient well with a bucket tied with a rope.

      Disorder, dirt, litter of paper
      Tables, benches, desks cramped.
We wondered where the teacher sits.

      Wallpaper cracked, falling off
      And light shining
      Between the boards.

      Blackboards and a chart
With a little girl praying, and
A verse about the moon and God.

Out the back down a short path
      To a privy—three sided.
      The open side facing us.

      In the school room again
And we find a geography book
      Titled: The World Today.
