Fall is in the air. The season begins the middle of this week. Where I live the seasons are subtle and we’ll still be wearing shorts downtown and by the beaches in the winter. But at my house upcountry the air will be much cooler and we’ll have more rain. That will change a couple of things; our meals will be a little more hearty and we’ll be re thinking exercising outdoors.

What are some of the ways you can stay on your path to 20 pounds down by December 20 as the weather changes where you live?

        • I know I’ll be making more soups, stews, potroast, casseroles. I won’t have access to the good mainland summer fruit so we’ll be eating more apples, bananas, avocadoes, oranges and pineapples. I’ll miss the berries and cherries we buy at Costco.

And for exercise I’ll be dusting off the treadmill and using that instead of taking our morning walks.

        • Goor Morning!

I will be taking more walks, bike rides and jogs outside. I will also be doing the fall clean up outside. And eating more soup!

        • I wanted to share this link for anyone interested. It’s from Women’s Health and it is the plan for 3 weeks of Abs diet eating/exercising.

        • Thanks for the link, Vikki. I’ll take a look now. And, of all things, this morning it’s raining. So after Joe gets off the treadmill and goes to work it’s my turn.

        • Vikki, this is really good. It all makes perfect sense and all of these foods are “real” foods with a plan that can essentially be followed for a lifetime. Thanks for that link.

        • Maryanne, has your weather started turning cold yet? One thing that’s quick and easy is a stir fry with your choice of protein, cut up into cubes for fast cooking, seasoning of your choice, veggies of your choice, all cooked in one skillet for fast cleanup. You could make a big batch of rice, brown rice, or any type of grain while your getting ready in the morning so you have plenty for the week’s meals.

Another thing I like is to cook some pasta in one pan while I’m cooking olive oil, garlic, a 14 oz can of tomomatoes, salt and some chile flakes in a skillet. When the pasta is done I grab it out of the water with tongs and toss it in with the fresh tomato sauce, add a little of the pasta cooking water for a binding agent and sprinkle the whole thing with parmesan cheese

I’ve found that skillet cooking is really fast when I’m hungry and not much time to cook.

          Congrats on the new job!

        • Vikki, thanks for the link, will look at it later this evening.  When it gets to cold and I donot want to go to the gym I will use the stepper and mike in the garage.

Some ideas for menu for the week:

          •  stir fry chicken breast with string beans and corn on

             the cub.

          •  baked salmon(any type of fish) with green salad
          •  baked turkey (wings, legs, cutlets) with baked sweet

             potato

          •  Chicken stew with lentils
          •  baked pork chops with sitr fry squash and zucchini
          •  Tacos

Hope all is going well for all the ladies.  I am not 5 pounds down but I am trying hard.  I know I am eating better but need to move a little more.  My schedule have me upside down but if I want it I have to get it done.  Good luck and let us contiue to move.

        • It’s really good walking weather in San Diego so I’ll try to take advantage of that.  Also trying to cut out mindless eating.

        • Anne, Mindless eating has always been an issue of mine.  I just started keeping a food journal. It worked for me years ago so I’m back to it.

We went for our walk this morning. The weather was beautiful. It was cool and dry with a very light breeze.

        • Now that the weather is getting cooler, I have been craving more soups. I also have been craving a lot of stir frys lately. It is so easy to whip together.

          Cynthia,
Costco has a three cherry mix in the frozen section. I use them with my steel cut oats with cinnamon and almond milk. I sweeten it with a small amount of agave or maple syrup. The best frozen cherries I get are the Dole dark sweet cherries. No added sugar, but they are incredibly sweet.

As for my diet, I am just trying to eat clean. I am taking a class in holistic nutrition and it is fascinating. I will start posting things that I am learning.

Hope everyone has an incredible week!

          Mary
