        • I think it’s important for each of us to choose a time that we‘re relaxed and able to focus or not focus I guess! I know that before each meditation I’m going to think of something that is my “intent” for the meditation. Then just empty my mind, breathe, and hopefully bring my intention closer to fruition. I heard about this a few years ago and it sounded good to me - meditation with a purpose.

I know breathing and turning off everything helps to meditate. Also picking the same time each day helps to be more successful at meditating.

        • I remember when I first started meditation with a group many years ago.  I thought I was doing something wrong or this meditation thing wasn’t for me because while trying to relax and clear my mind, my head just wouldn’t stop racing.

Meditation takes practice.  A lot of it. So, I share this so you know that you are not doing anything wrong, you just need to give yourself time.

What I was told to do is each time I ‘catch’ myself wandering, to think of a word and just keep repeating that to myself.  My word was, “Calm“.  It works and you will find yourself reaching a calmer place each time you practice.

This morning I’m starting with my meditation book, The Language of Letting Go.  Today’s reading is, Perfection.  Humm, this should be interesting!  I’ll read that and then start my peaceful journey into my day.

          Enjoy YOUR time today ladies!

          Jean

        • Jean thank you for the info. I have tried meditating before too and found I couldn’t turn my mind off easily. So I learned to focus on my breathing. Breathe in for 5 breathe out for 5. It helped. And even if I didn’t always reach that place of complete blankness I did reach a level of peace and serenity.

BTW I got in a solid 8 hrs of sleep last nightestatic

        • Yesterday I meditated in the afternoon for what I thought was 15 mins.....turned out to be nearly 30 mins! and I felt so sleepy afterwards.  So I’ve decided to meditate in the mornings instead.  I use the breathing technique, and when my mind wanders off, I bring my focus back to my breath.  I’m going to use Jean’s method of thinking of a word and focusing on that today.

I know I need to get in bed no later than 10 p.m.

Trying to get that one last thing done before I go to bed is NOT really pay off in the long run.

The 15 minutes of meditation - I already do.

As for the meditation I did do it with very little difficulty. I wonder if that is why I was able to sleep so well.....hmmmmmmm

        • Vikki, I’m in with meditation.  Usually get the 7-8 hours of sleep but need to do some meditating.  When I tried meditating before, I would think of so many other things.  Then I figured if I kept focusing a little longer each time, I could eventually get to the 15 min.  Would love to know where you got your meditation for your Ipod, Ginger.  And Jean, what is the book you are using?

        • Vikki...I’m just now seeing your challenge!  I’m glad you decided on this one.  Sleep helps us in so many ways.  The energy you get in the day time and it gives your body time to recover from your day plus if you are lifting weights to help build strength....when you‘re sleeping is when you are actually building muscle.  And it’s proven that it helps in losing weight.

So many benefits.....I have been going to bed earlier everyday this week....so I’m in with this challenge!! estatic

        • I am having no sleep issues now that my stomach is in its right place!

However, I have definitely gotten out of the mediation habit.  I usually use the Ohm technique.

Breath in through nose while saying (in my mind - I’m writing it phonetically) “ohm, mani, paymay, hung.”  Then breathe out through mouth.  This is done to a 5 count in and a ‘cleansing’ breath out.

Works wonders for me to slow down and relax.

Mary youre so right about the sleep. I’m sure part of my weight has came from years of too much caffiene and too many nights of only 4 hours sleep.
I just need to work on my stinkin bladder and it waking me up!

But yesterday I tried meditating a different way. I sat on my deck swing, closed my eyes and listened to the birds chirping. It was different but very happy!

I may try that again todayestatic

I have a little fountain in my living room & when I open my dining room window, I can hear the birds chirping.  The living room windows have to be shut though or I hear all the street traffic!  Can’t traffic just stop for my 15 minutes???  Gee!  No respect!!

        • I listened to an amazing new CD while meditating yesterday - and experienced a very deep meditation that silenced the mental chatter.  I felt very relaxed and energized afterwards.  The ambient music uses combinations of all brainwave frequencies (beta, alpha, theta, delta).

I was so impressed I downloaded another CD titled Sleepy Ocean and listened to the sound of waves as I fell asleep.  Had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in ages!.

If anyone’s interested the CD’s are from a series by Dr. Jeffrey Thompson called Awakened Mind System and are available from Amazon and i-tunes cost $9.99.  Highly recommended!
