Hello, girls, anyone here want to be my buddy in my long journey to shed 25 pounds, plz? Thank you!!!
Hi Patricia
I want to shed 20. There is a group in the losing weight after 40 community posts. I think it says something about accountability in the title. I’d like to get that post active and share weight loss and maintenance stories and encouragement. Does that sound like something you’d like to do?
Cynthia
yes i will be ur friend on here to loose weight. i need to lose like 80 lbs. and its real hard for me considering im disabled and i have seizures caused by the sun and cant walk far.
Looks like we‘re getting some fun weight loss/maintenance participants. You’ve started something good, Patricia.
I’m curious about the time difference with Sao Paulo. I’m at the end of the spectrum, Hawaii time. I’m 3 hours behind Pacific time until their daylight savings time ends.
How about you?
Thank you for getting a group started!
Cynthia
Hey—- count me in! I’m just over 5ft in height and weigh 144 lbs so I’ve got about 20lbs to shed myself. I’m thinking about trying the Atkins Diet. Anyone had experiece with it?
Accountability , yes, definitely,Chocolatier and emotional support. We´d better report our progress, etc. I am starting today with 14 Atkins induction too like sweetnsassy. I´ve done it before as a starting point because it really functions as an appetite suppressant as I usually starve during the day only to overeat at night, ruining the whole day effort.
Angelluvslarry, my doctor says that after 40 we must do some sort of activity, so whatever we feel we can, we must do.Can you move about the house somehow , we just have increase calorie burning. i think i´ll start by taking the stairs intead of the elevator at my workplace.
Chocolatier, SP Standard time zone: UTC/GMT -3 hours
No daylight saving time at the moment. Sao paulo is an hour ahead of New York and a few decades behind!!!
Thanks, Patricia. So you and I are 7 hours difference in time. I like what you said about Sao paulo being a few decades behind.
This morning I worked out on my stationary bike 45 minutes folowed by 100 crunches. Yesterday I did some strength training, actually a lot of strength training. I’m planning to lift some light weights this afternoon to keep my metabolism elevated.
I eat pretty well, lots of fruit, veggies, whole grains, lean protein. I studied clinical nutrition in junior college but it’s been an interest of mine over my lifetime. My problem is I eat well but I eat too much. I like Weight Watchers online to keep my portions in check. And I like to cook and bake.
I think this could be a really nice group to be a part of!
I wasn’t successful with Atkins a couple of years ago because of digestive issues but I know several people who like it very much or a modified version like the Beverly Hills Diet.
I’m looking forward to celebrating all of our successes together, supporting one another during some of the rough spots and sharing tips and information
what can i do around the house as far as activities? thanxs 4 the support.
I have a thought. If you have a DVD player on your television, there may be a workout specifically geared toward your lifestyle that you can do at home. I’m thinking of exercises with exercise bands while sitting in a chair. The toning effect of the resistance of the bands could be a start for you without putting undue strain on your body or causing injury.
Just a thought. Hope this helps
This is great motivation! I like the idea of us working toward the same goal and supporting each other in the process. I don’t eat big portions at all but I have an overactive sweet tooth! NOT GOOD. That’s why the Atkins diet is going to be really tough for me but I have to get my weight in check as well and my overall health. I’ve read several articles about sugar and its effect on women’s hormones. Some experts referred to sugar as a “poision“. Eeeks!!
And my weakness is too many happy hours. I work for an advertising company so we do have lots of events to attend, but for now, Atkins. And then I´ll go for the weight watchers cause I agree with you that is healthier…
Luckily, I don’t have a big sweet tooth. I, however, love love love the crunchy salty stuff! As for my sweet tooth, good thing because my profession is, I’m a chocolatier. I’m so glad I can work with it and use as a tool for my work but I don’t eat much of it unless I’m making a new truffle flavor. Even then, I had it over to some people who I use as tasters who will give me the truth about taste, texture, mouth feel and such.
Patricia, I support you in the effort in light of having events to go to. It does make it more challenging when eating out a lot.
I think that Atkins helps cut cravings for sugar since it gets out of your system during the initial phase of the plan. In any event, I believe there will be a lot of support and camaraderie here.
thank you chocolatier. i will see what i can do to get some weights 4 my wrists and ankles. i too have a very big sweet tooth lol. but i want to loose it so i can loose this weight. i want to thank everyone 4 their support. take care and god bless always. love angel
I’m in too!! I need to loose 15lbs and I’m having a really hard time. Went to Weight Watchers, worked for 2 years, then I gained 10 back.
Thanks for the invite and the motivation!!
Hi guys, I am 45 in 2 weeks 46 and for the past year I have been on a loosing weight naturaly mission, I exercise every day and eat very lean and healthy no diet, I do eat burgers icecream, only 1 day of the week and portion control. I have lost 45 lbs wet from size 22 to 16 and love it, I still need to loose or want to loose 30 lb, I can tell you is not easy but the rewards is. You can do it
I definately need to lose weight but I have absolutely no will power or motivation. HELP!!! I need to lose about 25 to 30 lbs.
all of us needs to keep each other in thought and mind. thanks 4 the support.
Atkins didn’t work for me.I did better on South Beach. Cutting out the carbs
Wow! reading this post is reading what I live. I work in the health & wellness industry. Everything is pharmaceutical grade, based on cellular nutrition. I host a “healthy” weight loss support group and this is what I hear all the time “all the diets used; weight lost; and then it creeps back and then some“. Of course there are some that have been able to keep it off. But for I have experienced not too many. Here we learn to live, how to go low glycemic, not using anything artificial, for sugar…. either raw sugar or Stevia works best for most of us. Otherwise I use regular. No diet drinks or low fat anything. We need to keep our bodies working. Again, need to check your health condition, high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes?? So many things to take into consideration. We need optimal health through optimal nutrition. Please make sure you are using a good supplement that meets USP (United State Pharmacopia) standards. You will see that on the bottle. Also make sure it has the NSF certificate. This is so you know that what it says on the bottle is what it is inside. A good book that analyzed over 1,500 supplements is The Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements. WOW! there is so much I can say. I work hand on hand with licensed nutritionist, elite athletes and many others just like us. Lately from the client base out of my area they have been talking to me to start a blog spot as well. I will let you know. Still thinking.
If exercise is somewhat difficult… I have a curvature on the spine due to an accident and need to be careful with exercises. Tai Chi has worked for me after my recovery (longer story) I started with the one for elderly and arthritis, then graduated. Even my therapists kept me from any exercise for almost 3 years. Just walk a little at a time. Since muscles were torn first in 95 and then again in 04. Not easy to drop too many pounds when you are not active. But it can be done. Just have short walks more often. Even inside the house. Invest in a pedometer and make sure you walk a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. Start slow if you must.
Wishing all of you the best! Please, eat all your meals, don’t skip, don’t go hungry. Enjoy more fruits and salads and healthy smoothies loaded with protein, this will keep you full longer too. Need the crunch munch… well (sorry about brands) try cherrios, kix, special k all without milk. Almonds, sunflower seeds, raisins for the sweet tooth. Hope this helps some. I am constantly supporting my clients, the only ones I can’t talk to much are the ones in Japan, besides language, the hours!! :)
You have one Body, One Life…
Why not give it the BEST care it deserves?
Wishing all of you Tremendous Health,Success & Weight Loss!

I just got this great book called “The Eat-Clean Diet” and The Eat-Clean Diet Workout” So good! By Tosca Reno, she has a picture of herself at 40 and out of shape and than an after picture of herself and she looks amazing. She transformed her body through clean eating and weights. I’m gonna give it a go. Just proves women after 40 can lose weight and tighten up our bodies.
I really like strength training. Not only does it transform your body and give you youthful tone but it’s great for bone density, too. And, hauling groceries into the kitchen with ease aint so bad either. Let us know how the eating plan and workout work for you! This is a great group with lots of good ideas to share!
Ohhh! Chocolatier I agree so much with that. All my life I was very active with swimming, bowling, skating, wonderful bicycle rides, lifted some weights all the time max of 40# per side, average 20# per side)just to stayed toned and not to create bulk. Your body is amazing! If you don’t use weights… Isometrics Exercises work great too(this I’m just starting again). I sure miss most of it. Muscle tone was excellent. This in only a “theory from my first doc” He said that it was a miracle my neck did not brake with the fall. He noticed muscles even on my neck!
When it comes to eating I am half and half. Lots of organic, lean, lots of fruits and veggies, smoothies with fruits, fiber and soy protein, but still eat pizza when I want. Not to crazy about fried food or greasy stuff, just PIZZA!. My LDL… only 92. My friends laugh at me, we go out and I keep ordering salads with chicken meat. Once I ordered heavy stuff with red meat…. was sick all night long. Too heavy on my stomach, I only eat it when I crave it. Once or twice a month. I am a firm believer of keeping my body free of toxins and make sure that the products I use help me detoxify. Anyway (forgive me all the red meat eaters) red meat is high on fat and it is a precursor for inflammation.
ok, after all the positive comments on toning after 40, I think I´m going to my strength training class tomorrow morning then. Haven´t been there in quite a while. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
they all sound like good ideas. ty group. see my problem is im broke all the time, so i can’t do any specific diet plan like u all are talking about. what else can i do? i know someone said to exercise in house. but as far as eatting goes, what can i do? my fiancee needs to loose weight too. ok u all take care and god bless u all always. love angel
What works for me! NO CARBS! (It is hard) Then 3 times a week jogging for 20 min ! :)
Me too, i have too cut on carbs at least at first, otherwise I can´t help eating all the bread I can find.
pattyc26 – that´s very very inspiring: 45 pounds naturally. Ok, we have no more excuses now. We have to start losing weight.
Just got this on the e-mail:
Start Climbing!
Too busy to hit the Stairmaster? That’s okay — any staircase will do! If you set aside 15 minutes of your day to go up and down a set of steps, you can burn 150 calories. So get off that elevator and take the stairs every chance you get!
Count me in. I’ve been doing this website which focus on weightloss:
It’s free and full of great information.
I’ve learned alot and I’ve already lost over 12 pounds. I workout almost daily with Turbo Jam and recently started to make the transition to clean eating that georgiegirl1 mentioned.
Let me know what you think about the site.

Great comments since I’ve been away. Angel, I understand about budgeting, too. Just start buying the freshest and leanest food you can. Processed food had a lot of salt and preservatives so if you don’t mind cooking, controlling the fat and sodium yourself is a way to go. Make a list of foods that you absolutely despise, food that you love, food you‘re not willing to give up, food you can take or leave and start there when planning your eating plan
Best
Cynthia
Annie, I just looked at the website you recommended. It’s full of really good information. Thanks for sharing it.
I think I’ve tried every diet known to man, or most of them. I think our generation of women were subjected to a lot of experiments and many of us were caught in the fad diet treadmill. Don’t know about you all but my metabolism suffered as a result.
A couple of years ago I decided to take some academic courses in nutrition, a lifelong interest of mine. I took 2 clinical nutrition classes with a teacher who has her Phd in the subject so I feel I gained much from them. My husband got his degrees in Exercise Physiology and ran a human performance lab after college and before going into education. His philosophy is simple and also the philosophy of the webstie Annie suggested, calories in/calories out. More out than in, weight loss. Equal in and out, weight maintenance. More in than out, energy storage (fat). So, I’m going back to the old school here. I’m eating the foods I like, I’m making sure I move my body sufficiently to burn energy and strengthen my muscles, I’m being careful to put less in than I use up and hopefully soon I’ll be back into the jeans I love to wear!
With support to us all

I’m glad you liked the website. It’s been very helpful to me. I was on weight watchers for years watching my points. I was always within points and exercised but didn’t lose. It wasn’t until I started tracking on Sparkpeople did I realize all my points were coming from fat and I wasn’t getting enough protein.
The longer I’m on the site, the more I learn. It’s been a process and I’m making slow changes but I have learned a great deal and it is working – so I’m sticking with it.

I have to confess that I am hungry right now….haha. But second day and doing ok.
Great advice/info from all of you!! Isn’t this site just great??? Like I said, I’m trying the Atkins Diet. My couisin lost 60 pounds counting carbs. She’s about 48 years old and in a size 6 and looks great! This will be VERY difficult for me since I’m a big bread and dessert person. This is day 2 and I didn’t realize just how many carbs I was consuming. It’s amazing!! Small portions, condiments and being active isn’t a problem for me so I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t losing weight. Maybe it WAS from all those carbs. Did you know that a can of Mtn Dew (my fav), has 46 carbs??? I’m only allowed 20 carbs a day starting off. I don’t feel good about eating all the bacon and cheese (remember I’m a Weight Watchers lady and used to limiting fatty foods) but they say it works if you stick with it. I will keep you posted on my progress. It’s going to be a challenge…. but any diet is! I just hope it pays off and I can get into a little black dress for Christmas and have a sexy new body for my fiance’ (instead of worrying about covering all that “baby fat” with a sweater!) lol Good luck to us!!!
there is also a site I enjoy: The Hacker´s Diet. All about what Chocolatier mentions: calories in/calories out. He has a technical approach to weight loss and is also very witty and funny.
