I'm reading an interesting book at the moment about using plants to either stimulate or discourage other plants and insects. Slugs are very sensitive to their environment, especially plants.  They suggest to mulch bark, horsetail (the plant of course!!!), borage and oak leaves around plants you want to protect. You can also water your plants with a wormwood infusion. Supposedly the little fellows don't like and will continue their way instead of stopping for a snack.  A bit late to try this year, but I'll definitely try next year and keep you posted if this works.
