Let’s see, the last one failed and the economy is getting worse, unemployment is continuing to rise, etc. What should we do? Oh I know, let’s do exactly what we did before! I know, it didn’t help before but at least it looks like we‘re busy!

      ...Give me a break.

        • They don’t want to get it Annie.  Lowering taxes doesn’t get the vote of the masses who already pay very little income tax.  Handing out money, now that guarantees votes from those masses.

I agree, lower taxes would do far more for the economy than any other plan I’ve heard of.  I also think we ought to cut Congresses pay until they straighten the mess out.  If any of us made such a humongous mess of our job, we’d be fired- on the spot.  And somebody keeps on electing these people.  I don’t get it.

I wonder how many people would run for Congress if there were no pay and no perks involved, strictly a volunteer position?

        • From what I’ve been reading, there is no new stimulus except for students and home buyers. There is supposed to be, however more money in the paychecks which was starting in June...has anyone seen that? NOT ME!!

I agree with Tulip...start by cutting govt. salaries. That would allot many dollars to the budgets of both state and federal and it wouldn’t fall on the tax payers. We have paid enough!!

        • Yes, lets cut pay across all governments not just the US - here in the UK we are on day 43 of more revelations of how much our politicans have abused the expense system .... in effect everyone of them has lived for free and more and just banked their pay and taken money in the form of bribes etc; and we have paid for their homes, food , cars , trips.

If people did it for the passion and the right reason the queue would be short but good

        • I agree Annie!!  Congress just doesn’t get it do they?  And by the way...where in the hell is this stimulus money coming from?????  From YOU and from ME.....all they are doing is making US think they are doing something to help people when in all reality....YOU...ME...ALL OF US....will pay for it eventually...say like next tax season??????

All they are doing is...transferring funds from one place to another and then charging you and me...taxes for transferring it.

Yes...if we could run the government like we do a credit union...where Congress (like the board of directors of a C.U.)...were strictly volunteers (no pay..no perks)...and the money was put back into the American people...(the members) and you had an annual local meeting about how things are run (an annual membership meeting)...and the American people were treated like they were President (like we do our credit union members)....THEN.....you might have a very efficiently run government.

Yes...the last stimulus package may have helped SOME...and I mean SOME..but as an overall country wide deal...it is a complete failure and eventually those who may have gone back to work (like Bernadette’s husband) will be out of work AGAIN.  Stimulus money went out to the local nuclear plant we have in our area:  Savannah River Site run by Savannah River Nuclear Solutions.  They are hiring people left and right...but the catch is...it’s only good for TWO YEARS!!!!  So you see...this is a bandaid....that is all!!!!

        • I guess the questions I have is:

Is there a timeline on what to expect when?
What is the breakdown in who the money is helping and what are the stats on those companies being helped?
What is the rate of layoffs at these companies?
What are the other options to achieve optimal results? Their timeline? The cost? Who will if effect and how?

The bottom line is that the govt can’t (and NEVER has) do it all to satisfy the masses. So who is the mass that needs to be satisfied? Which % of taxpayers get to have their way? Is there a way to satisfy the majority as well as promote jobs?

Sure let’s cut the govt’s pay but do you really think they would do it?

        • Well first...we know it won’t happen....unless there is a new American Revolution.  You’ve got these crooks working on Washington and who do you think they are going to look after first???  Themselves!!!!  ABsolutely!!!

No..you won’t ever fix it for everyone...but the percentages and the masses have to be more than what they are.  We don’t have time and room to figure it out over years and years.  If it really doesn’t help more than who it has helped..then why do you continue to do it again???  Blows my mind..but then..not really...they have a superb track record of screwing up this nation!!!

        • Yep Vikki...you are so right on that!!  And I would say...the American people are getting screwed....ROYALLY!!!!!  frown

I had a member to ask me to look into my crystal ball and tell me what I thought was going to happen within the next year and did I think things were going to get better.

My response to her was...“no..I do not think things are going to get better...and no..I don’t think the interest rates are going to go up anytime soon“..so don’t look to make any interest on your CD’s...just be glad you can hold on to what you still have and not have some idiot on Wall Street take it“.

I keep hearing rumors...that it will be the 4th quarter we will start to see improvement....yeah...that is because people will try to do a little someting for Christmas...but it won’t be like Christmas’s in the past...not even like last year.  So if that is what they are looking to..to say we have some improvement...they are stupid.  Plain and simple...stupid!!!

        • Improvement to me would be:

          Unemployment decreases
People on welfare and other assisted programs decrease
          Decrease in companies closing
Less crime and suicide ( I did have a friend who thought she had no other options)

And it doesn’t have to happen overnight but a slow and steady improvment in all areas would be nice!

        • Improvement would be American Jobs Coming Back From Overseas!!!!  The unemployment rate can’t go down when they’ve shipped all the jobs to mexico and thailand and who knows where.

Welfare programs will never decrease as long as the governement so willingly, generously doles it out.

Improvement would be, Americans standing up and demanding to spend their money on high quality American made goods.

        • How about making the ones that charge us an arm and a leg for oil...let’s charge them an arm and a leg for wheat!! Food!!!

Oh and close the US borders...send any illegal immigrants back...and the ones with green cards..here legally...in order to stay..you pay all the taxes we pay...plus...you have to go to school to learn the English language.  I just say...close the borders for a while...no new people coming in until we get a grip on things....then IF..we get some type of normalcy back..and who knows what normal is anymore....then..open them back up.

If you didn’t pay into Social security...you don’t get any out of it...only if you are severly handicapped and you paid into it.  And I think instead of paying into the social security system...there should be an account just for you..non one can touch it..not even you for no reason..until you are fully retired..and then what you put into...you will get a percentage out monthly to live on.  Congress can’t touch it...NO ONE...no early withdrawals...no emergency fund...NADA!  And if you didn’t work...oh well...there is no money in that account.  Now..if you were a housewife..and you didn’t work outside of the home...hubby best pay you..by putting money into that account for you.  It’s time to make THE PEOPLE responsible as well.
