  • Anyone else out there like Yoga?

      I’ve not made it a regular form of exercise throughout my life but, when I’m practicing yoga I admit that neat things begin to happen to my body.

      When I was in the 4th and 5th grade I discovered Richard Hittleman’s Hatha Yoga program on PBS. I starting practicing it. Don’t know when or why I stopped but I did.

      Then on and off throughout my life I went back to it but not permanently.

      In my late 30’s I discovered Ashtanga, power yoga, and went regularly to classes with a friend. It made me strong, flexible, gave me great posture and I trimmed down like nobody’s business. Then I stopped again.

      Now at nearly 50 I feel like an old woman at times. When I get up from the couch I’m really stiff. I walk in the mornings and I lift weights but I know I need something for my flexibility. So I’m back to yoga but in a different way than before.

      This morning when I returned from a 4 mile walk with my husband, I spent a few minutes with some upper body weight lifting and then did a short series of 5 sun salutations. After my shower I felt so much better. I’m hoping that this time I make Yoga something I do for myself more often in the years to come.
