Yes, it’s getting “ugly“, but not just in the financial sphere.  If this is allowed to continue - what was our great Constitution will no longer be the document that guides this great country!

        • I’m afraid we are heading to a socialistic nation.   Democracy has been thrown to the way side.

I’ve said many times...the more responsibility, the more you allow the government to take control of our everyday lives...our everyday decisions....the more control they have over you and the less freedom you will have.

If you want to depend on the government to take care of you...then go live in China....Cuba.....North Korea.

Just as [Link Removed] stated... if they start taking your right of freedom of speech...then..what do you do?

Right to bear arms.....they want to take that right away too.

What is taking place right now (like Annie said) is what our founding fathers did not want.

$13 a week extra in my paycheck....was that $13 a week or a month...I can’t remember...let’s be generous and say it’s $13 a week that we are going to get in our paychecks.
          WOW....what will that afford me....hmmm....hmmmm.....hmmmmmm... ??????

Not much.....and I did realize that if every taxpayer receives that...it’s a lot of money.  I do understand that...but is this really going to help the American people?  HOw abou more deductions when filing your income taxes.  You use to could deduct the interest on credit cards....why not go back to that?  We are drowning in credit card debt...help give the people some relief from it by letting them use the interest as a deduction.  When my son turned 16 years of age...still a minor...still in  high school..still lived under my roof...I could no longer get the child credit for him.  What’s wrong with that picture?

There are other ways to get money back into people’s pockets.

Jobs....a construction job is not going to help the woman that  was an operation worker at some plant.  Repairing roads does not help everyone....I just don’t get that.  Furthermore that will not even start until the summer.
          What about the people now??????

I“ve had two more people today getting loan extensions because they were laid off...did find another job but they are not making enough to pay everything.  They are trying to find another job.  Thank God we can help them.

I had another individual moving all of their accounts from Bank of America because they won’t even treat them with any dignity..much less talk to them in person...and tried to set them up for failure after the lady’s purse was stolen.  The list goes on and on.

Another lady is on disability from a nuclear facility that is here locally.  She is 44 years of age...had to have open heart surgery Dec. 30th 200 and she is short $700 a month each month.  Thank God her boyfriend helps her....but...if she has anymore heart trouble she will lose her job because she is security at this facility and they won’t sign a medical waiver if you have had a heart attack after Dec. 30, 2008.   Talk about pressure.

I see it EVERY SINGLE DAY.  It breaks my heart but...I will say this.  For the most part...the individuals that I do see are not in dispair...not crying at my desk....and not even really upset.  They are almost numb...just going through the motions.  Then a few say...you know...I’m not worrying about it...God will take care of me.

Back to the markets.......so what is it going to take to get it back running? We have to build up our consumer confidence and get back to work.  But how do you make all of that to start?

Personally...I think our communities need to come together to make a plan on how to survive all of this.  It has to start somewhere.  Why not have town meetings....plans on how we can help each other.  So many of us have resources, knowledge that could help someone else without them paying for something.  I’ve rambled enough.....

        • Annie,

The Sec. of the Treasury isn’t the only one.  Tom Daschle who authored the Ntl. Health Care piece that is part of the stimulus (bet no one who doesn’t listen to Conservative talk radio understands this), as well as the W.H. Chief of Staff (Rahm Immanuel) now has been discovered as not having paid taxes on rent-free D.C. housing.  My friend, who is a clergyperson, pays horrific taxes - part of which relates to lodging provided as part of his ‘perks‘, can’t get by with that.

I’m sorry, but I didn’t vote for the dude who now occupies 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue - but I do seem to recall that he promised to “clean up” D.C..  Yet so many of the folks he’s gathered around him have serious ethical issues.

If it only related to these kind of “business-as-usual” in D.C., it would not be so serious.  Our basic rights under the Constitution are under attack & unless ‘Joe & Jane’ citizen get organized, loud and “push-back“. . . we are headed down a very slippery slope.

I was a young child during WW2 & saw the newsreels of what happened in Nazi Germany.  I was fortunate to have studied Civics & the history of the rise to power of the Nazi’s.  The knot in the pit of my stomach is that some things that are being done & proposed in D.C. have a similar odor. What’s the saying. . . “if it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck. . .it must be a duck!”

        • IMHO - it’s our capitalist system that is under attack - from the 1st amendment to our right to health care regardless of our age.  I at least thought it would take a little time before the flaming libs went after our basic freedoms.  Unfortunately, they are as greedy for power as some of the wall street/corporate types are for money.

We really have no clue how deep this corruption of our country’s founding principles goes.  But look for George Soros somewhere under the heap.  George & his entertainment cronies who behaved sooo poorly at the inaguration.

From my vantage point, the so-called ‘stimulus’ is nothing but “payback” to the special interest groups who got the dude elected.  Is there not another Reagan out there?

I believe it will take a major ‘revolt’ by the citizentry to turn this thing around.  At this rate, we can’t wait for the next election cycle. . . but I don’t have a clue what to do.  So I’m open to brilliant ideas for how those of us who care about the great American ‘experiment’ to come up with something that will truly make a difference.  Unfortunately, it’s no longer “government of, for & by the people“.  Our elected folks get to D.C. & think they work only for themselves.

Ah, feels good to rant just a little!

You might want to consider putting some money into Goldmoney as it is doing quite well. I’d wait for a correction soon where it might come down, but it is due to skyrocket. It is a traditional way to preserve wealth. It is not that gold is doing so well, it is fiat currency is doing so bad.

The last 8 years with Bush & GOP in power has all but destroyed our country, but so far Obama is not doing any better. We need to separate the bankers from politics!

This is an excellent must see by Moyers!

          [Link Removed]

The problem with all politicians is they only worry about their next vote, no one looks ahead to the next generation, let alone the next 7 generations.

This is only the beginning and so far, no one is listening to any of the wise or innovative thinkers. The world is in for a big change.

        • Oh Annie. . . I think it might get “messy” to have a political blog about the current situation.  Emotions still run high on both sides of the “aisle” with this past election cycle.  In fact, I’ve had to put some ‘mouth-distance’ between myself & others who don’t or won’t listen to reason.  So we just “agree to disagree” and not broach the subject.

But I do think those who bought into the ‘empty rhetoric’ will be shaking their heads & wondering after a few more months of being exposed to the like of the folks now in charge in DC.

I find it interesting that someone who was so ‘revered’ doesn’t have an approval rating of more than 65%.

I heard an interesting comment yesterday that the potus is more interested in being a “celebrity” than providng real “leadership“.

I’ve said too much already. . . but I’d be for a politcal blog here if we could all be civil & respectful of each other’s views.

I don’t know how this site works as yet, but on our ning.com site, we can have “private” groups that are by invitation only.  That way if we want a specific discussion with folks we know can “agree to disagree” - then that’s how we do it.

Perhaps if such an arrangement is available here that would be the route to go to have a political discussion of the kind you speak!

        • Thank you Rena, for the comments about our last president.  I kept my mouth shut because again - folks have very strong opinions & it’s not worth getting into a ‘pissin’ match over it.

If you want to look at the current situation from a purely historical approach. . .our downward slight started with FDR & the ‘hype’ that he got us out of the depression.  Not true. . . WW2 got us out of the depression.  But government social experiments called “what government will do for me” instead of JFK’s (not one of my favorites but a great line from his inaugural speech) “ask what we can do for our country” began in that era.  From time to time, we’ve had remarkable men in the W.H. who have corrected the mistakes of the past & done it quite well. R. R. was one of them & at the time I was very upset with him because my youngest daughter lost her survivor benefits for college under “Reagonomics“. . . but history has shown he knew what he was doing & successfully managed to get great legislation passed.  From that point on - it was up and down in terms of leadership in the W. H. on both sides of the aisle.

But in all the above, our basic principles remained intact.  In fact, Reagan repealed the Fairness Doctrine.  This time, I’m not so sure we’ll be that fortunate.  The potus has a very leftist mentality & unfortunately has some very unsavory folks in his entourage - including Soros.  Soros is an immigrant to America who has citizenship & has amassed a fortunate by legally ‘swindling’ multi-millions in Europe & probably the U.S. (notice that stands for “us“).  Now he wants to change everything we stand on - a country who allowed him, by the very nature of our system, to succeed as he has.  And he wants to screw us over.

Let’s put Soros on a boat back to his native country.  Think it might have been ‘Devil’s Island’ (just joking about something that isn’t funny - but to poke fun may be the only way to survive).

        • IMHO....One thing that really tweaks my tootie is how everyone uses Bush as a scape goat for things being so bad... You can not seriously blame one man for all that has fallen upon us all today..It has taken years of bad choices and hasty decisions, and greed. Not made by just one political group or the other..It's been all of them...I know that some of these presidents made things "look" better but in reality behind the scenes and in places we will never be taken or made privilege to...something had to give in order for that one shining moment that gave the voters of that individual a fleeting second of Glory... but if that one effort was so monumental then why did he not continue to gain ground and stay true to course...because it was all for show. So they will remain Popular..And make us all feel safe and comfortable... They all have the same agenda .I am not a political person and with my very opinionated mouth it is better I stay out of the main stream..But I do stay abreast of the issues...It didn't matter who won this election..No one was gonna be happy...They gave us a person who was different in many ways..Not a typical candidate...I know I am gonna piss someone off with this and I don't mean it in a condescending way..They used him to give us a renewed confidence in the government...He was placed in this position because the American people were fed up with the kind of politics that have been running our country in the past ... Clearly he has his own ideas and preaches his own brand of politics..But...It won't bring the kind of change we all were hoping for...It doesn't matter how you reword something or present it..Not if the eventual outcome is the same..And it will be..It has already started...Ever Single Candidate has made similar promises.. Because it's what you wanted to hear and he wanted to be the President..So you were told whatever it took to get him in the Whitehouse..Just as every other presidential candidate has done over and over ..Nothing has changed its still the same plan it's just reworded and some of the playing fields were changed but it is still the same game...and the only ones who really win are them...I truly wish the President the best..I hope for all our sakes he can step up and over the glory line and loose the celebrity status.. And really make a difference..and to show those who used him as a political tool that he is more than just a puppet...but as long as the media keeps making his personal life and his wife's personal life a reality show ..Hell it will be as popular as the Osborn's..Please , Please don't take any of what I have said here as a direct slam to anyone...I would have said the same thing no matter the color creed or religion..I won't apologize for what I feel..I do believe our government is capable of many things... I believe we are told only what we need to know to get whatever response they want from us...I will say I am sorry for only one thing..That I don't have the faith I once had in what my country can do for me as an individual or all of us as a whole...If you need to have something to believe in try believing in yourself...Life here has become like a circus..Don't be fooled by the distorted reflection in the fun house mirror... I will say I am sorry if I have hurt any of my friends here and God knows it was not my intent...This was said with love and friendship...I am scared as the next person...

Including...“our government is capable of many things“. It is only capable of what WE THE PEOPLE allow and yes, work, vote, fight (I don’t mean warfare, but in the system) and FALL for!

Don’t lose your faith! You said, “try believing in yourself.” We’ve got to USE our system of self-government, or we‘re going to LOSE IT!! You also said, “I don't have the faith I once had in what my country can do for me as an individual or all of us as a whole.” You and I ARE our country. Please try to HELP.

        • Linda Thank You...I believe you are a very informed lady and respect your words of wisdom. I used to believe in our government and all it stood for, but year after year and president after president I watched it all being destroyed..And now this..This horrible mess is what we have left..I didn't vote for our President elect.. I am a Republican and will be till I die. I have to have something I can hold on to and try to believe it matters..I know I probably will not see the end results of the mayhem that is going on now and the effects it will have on my Grandchildren..Unless something miraculous happens I can't see this getting any better soon. I just cannot see how I can respect or trust a man who would want the likes of someone like this Soros to even be in his entourage...I just don’t know what to think anymore...I think we as a people should take a stand some where...but it won't happen because this very election will keep us all dived..Just as I am sure it was part of the plan to begin with..When people are able to see past their pride and really look at the whole picture not just him but everyone he as around him..and realize it is not just about him or his decisions but them as a whole we will never stand united....A House Divided Can Not Stand..

        • Deb I am hanging in there ...I want nothing more than to see all of us as a whole again..Our country is slowly being divided against its self..and until we all see this it's going to keep going downward..If business can't stop lining their pockets and stealing from its employees. Exp..My boyfriend has worked for a branch of one of the leading car companies for 11 years..First they took his and others overtime away..Then they up their health insurance..Then laid off over 50 employees..That was before Christmas..Then after Christmas they told everyone their pay was being cut by 5% and no more 401K..And another string of layoffs somewhere around 100.. Then he lost his position there..I am not at liberty to say why ...He was head of safety inspection. they put him on a job he had not done in 10 yrs and if he had not picked it up within 3 days he would be fired...He was not the only one who was handed the same kind of deal. But..now because they have hardly no employees left they are bringing in temps...My mom's friend works for a big steel company in Michigan and they took 4.00 off her pay, did away with all health insurance, no retirement benefits and cut her hours to almost 30 a week and moved her out of her high paying position as an inspector and put her on the line..And as of the first of January there is to be no more seniority..So it does not matter if you have been there 20 yrs or 1 month..Everyone's the same...If that's not enough to make a person crazy..Then you have these big companies and smaller ones using these illegal immigrants to work for half the pay of an American. Paying them under the table so they don't have to pay any tax for them or give any benefits to them..They are stabbing their own fellow countrymen in the back just so they can horde their monies...can you just imagine how the goings on in our country look to the other countries..We are divided...that makes us venerable..and that worries me...I find all of this very frustrating ... I want more than anything for all of us to be the United Country we were...To take back our right to say when we have had enough..It is suppose to be run By the people and for the people...What happened to that...
