Most Americans say U.S. on wrong track: poll

“WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Economic fears are weighing heavily on Americans, with a large majority saying the United States is on the wrong track and nearly half believing the worst is yet to come, a Reuters/Ipsos poll said on Wednesday.

The poll reflected growing anxiety about the economy and frustration with Washington after a narrowly averted government default last week, a credit rating downgrade by Standard & Poor’s, a stock market dive and a stubbornly high 9.1 percent jobless rate.”

        • I don’t think we’ve hit bottom, either. As for us, we carry little to no debt, we’ve saved well for the future, we stay clear of the stock market and we don’t count on Social Security for our livelihood after retirement. But I realize that our situation is rare. Many Americans are too far into debt, are either unemployed or underemployed and small businesses are afraid to do any hiring with such an uncertain financial future. As for the state I live in, we have far too many government employees. It’s impossible to grow an economy with many of its citizens being paid by the government. The money keeps circling around until it dissipates and it never grows. That’s what we‘re seeing in countries that have so many of its citizens on government assistance. These economies never grow.

        • I don’t think we have hit the bottom yet sadly. I just wish our gov’t would get their acts together and work towards the greater good for US vs them!

        • I don’t think the financial troubles are over yet. We‘re not at the bottom yet but something needs to be done or we’ll be seeing it.
