Beware of artificial sweeteners. Many diet plans are laden with them (including weight watchers.) They are not only neurotoxins, but they can actually make your body crave sweets. Use google - type in Splenda, aspartame, sucralose.
Most flavored waters have artificial sweeteners.
Stevia is a much healthier option, or xylitol.
I have suffered the ill effects from them and done some extensive research.
There are much healthier ways to lose weight. I don't know anyone who has lost weight just by using artificial sweeteners and not changing anything else in their diets.
However, I know LOTS of people who have lost weight without using artificial sweeteners.
I know most people just write it off and say ‘what’s the big deal?’ They wouldn’t be on the market if they weren’t safe... right? Please at least take some time and do some research before you come to that conclusion.

      Sharing Hope,

      Dee Dee

        • I so agree!  A few months ago when I was researching about a health issue I have, I did quite a bit of reading on sweeteners too and from what I read decided they were not for me! I avoid artificial sweeteners almost 100% of the time and go with healthier alternatives.  I read labels of everything, but I know sometimes its gotten slipped by me, especially when at other people’s houses.  Thanks for making the post Dee Dee.

        • Thanks for the post deedee.  Splenda has tried to pull the wool over our eyes saying it is a derivative of sugar.  Yeah, a chemical derivative.  Artificial sweetners first came about for use for diabetics and also to help with tooth decay.  I personally watch my sugar intake and I use Stevia to sweeten my drinks and cereals.  I agree to go as natural as you can.  It isn’t good for the body to put chemically laden foods and beverages in it.  The body doesn’t know what to do with it.

How can we substitute sugar?  Use Honey? Rock Sugar? Brown Sugar?  Crane Sugar?  Powder Sugar?  So many different kind of sugar.

        • Splenda/Sucralose is really bad for you CD. The govt wants us to think it is okay, but if you research natural web sources and studies the side effects can be horrible. A very good book to read is Excitotoxins. There are lots of additives that are really harmful to our digestive tracts and overall health. Dr. Mercola has some very good articles on both Splenda and Aspartame. I posted one on a blog way back when, and there are a couple on my www.perfectbodyshapeforyou.com website - though they pertain more to using them for weight management.

You can use Stevia or Xylitol if you are watching calories. The more ‘raw’ sugar is, the better it is for you. Brown sugar is better than white. Honey is very good for you - if it is Raw Honey. Everything in moderation... :)

        • Splenda is closer to bleach in its chemical makeup than sugar.  The makers of Splenda took the sugar molecule and blasted three Hydrogen molecules off of it and replaced them with three CHLORINE molecules.  Yes, that’s right, Chlorine.... as what’s in Clorox... and your pool.  My body’s reaction to anything with Splenda is lower intestine spasms; kind of like sharp menstrual cramps that confine you to bed until they pass.  I’ll stick with my raw cane sugar, or Sucanat (my favorite), and I don’t care that my sugar cookies have a brown tinge.  Bleached white stuff may look prettier, but I’d rather be healthy.

        • My brother did research and he said that unlike what most people think saccharin has not caused harm to anyone.  He said diabetes have been on it for years and they show no increased risk of cancer.  However, he did say something about the bodies reaction in the weight loss area I cant remember what.  As far as I know, there little research on it.  Since he said this I think i read one article on the subject. (scholarly)
Second, everyone esp in CA is into anything that says Natural. To that he said one of the most toxic things is natural botulism. Just because something is natural doesnt mean it is good for you. Since, the FDA regulate some of these things. I went for a minor mouth surgery and the doctor had a big sign with some natural supplements that you needed to stop taking for the surgery. One i remember caused bleeding.
The other thing is what amount the bottle says on it is not many times the strength it says.  My endo said not to  take DHEA but I could go to a doctor and get it. He said they vary widely.  Bottom line for me is dont take anything new, it might cause a problem as in zicam causing loss of smell.  They said it was the zinc.

After a battery of tests, they found out she had aspartame poisioning. She drank diet pepsi all the time. Since she has stopped the diet pop and anything containing aspartame, all of her symptoms have passed. Scarry isnt it?

        • I’ve read so many different articles on this topic that I’m sufficiently confused. I’ve decided to mix it up, so every time I go shopping I buy a different brand/type. I figure that way I don’t get too much of any one type.

        • A report came out a few years back which linked the Gulf War Syndrome to diet drinks and sugar free items. When nutrasweet reaches 86 degrees it turns into Formeldehyde, when it reaches 101 degrees it turns into Methanol (wood grain alcohol).  Our bodies are approximately 98.6 degrees so as soon as you eat/drink anything with nutrasweet (other artificial sweetners may fall into this category too) it automatically converts to formeldehyde. So you are giving yourself a little formeldehyde with every sip or bite.  When nutrasweet is heated to 101 it’s a dose of methanol with each mouthful.  This is cooking with it, leaving cases of diet drinks in high temp areas like the desert as in the case with Desert Storm when Walmart and Kmart sent over crates of soft drinks and bottled water to the soldiers.

The Gulf War syndrome wasn’t some poison the enemy inflicted upon our men and women it was our very own invention and production of nutrasweet. The desert gets up to 120-140 during the day and these crates are sitting in that heat waiting for the ice box.

In this same Government study it showed that Nutrasweet actually makes diabetes worse and weight gain worse because of the chemical reaction in the body and the body using fat to encapsulate the toxin and store it. It also causes brain lesions and that is the over exposure of formeldehyde and at times methanol if the aspartame got that warm.  It causes nerve damage among many many other things.

Then you take the aluminum from the can and that heavy metal collecting in the soft tissues of the body, primarily the breast and brain tissue and the excess potassium (the type in the soft drinks) in the carbonated water leaching minerals out of your bones and a diet soft drink becomes a dose of pure poison.

Did you know that you can put a small piece of raw steak in a bowl and pour coke over it and the coke will consume the steak!  You can also use coke to eat away stains on your concrete driveway!  Now with all of this in mind there a millions of adults and children drinking these all day everyday and we wonder why (on top of all of the herbicides, pesticides, fire retardants and a slew of other VOC’s, PCB’s, etc.) people have so many illnesses that were so rare or didn’t exist 40 years ago.

Most of our illnesses do not even exist in third world countries where they don’t have access to our dietary options and industrial pollutants.  We just sit back and whatever the Government says then it must be o.k. Jimmy Carter’s Administration would not approve Aspartame because of what it was.  This particular company tried to get the FDA to approve a couple of times and both times was told no. As soon as Reagan took office, his newly appointed head of FDA was good friends with the CEO of the aspartame company and it was approved immediately.  Since that time nerve related diseases and sicknesses have skyrocketed.

Sorry this is so long and I could go on and on with other chemicals they have put in our food but I will get off my soap box for now.  But please pay attention to the ingredients in your food, personal care items and outdoor items.  Look up what they are if you aren’t familiar with them.  Parabens are in all kinds of personal care products as a preservative and they are just now in the middle of a study determining that they cause cancer and other illnesses and will probably be banned.  THIS is after how many years of them being put in our products without any form a research or study being done?

Our Government officials can be bought and usually are. Not all of them because I know we have a “few good men/women” who serve, but most of them can and are bought by lobbyist for companies who want to make a buck off of their poisons.  Once again we just sit back and say “o.k.“.
