      Breastfeeding Newborns to Protect Their Intestines  

      A newborn baby’s gut is very delicate as it has never been exposed to food or drink. Breastfeeding in the first few days after the birth is very important, because there is an ingredient in human breast milk which protects and repairs the baby’s intestines. Levels of this ingredient are seven times more concentrated in colostrum - the milk produced in the first few days after birth.
