City of Detroit Car Purchase Program
The City of Detroit Department of Human Services is offering a "Car Purchase Program," for individuals who need a car and don’t already have one—TO GET TO WORK.
There is a high demand for this program, but federal funding is limited. When I called the office today, I was told the program will only last, as long federal funds are available, even though the program is scheduled to end September 30, 2010.

This program is housed at the Northwest Activities Center Office location - Department of Human Services, 18100 Meyers Rd on the lower level. The phone for the Department of Human Services office at NWAC # is 313-887-6656.

If you contact them, they will ask some questions to find out if you qualify and then take your name—to place on the WAITING LIST.

Here are the items you may be asked to present
      MAKE COPIES TO AVOID DELAYS.
      1. Picture ID
      2. Birth certificate or report card or immunization record for any children under 18
      3. Social security cards for all household members
      4. Written proof of income for the past 12 months
      5. Quote if possible of a car less than $5000 (the voucher is for up to $4995)

If you already have a car, then you won’t qualify for the car purchase program. They are offering to make car repairs up to $900, so in addition to the above take:

      .Proof of insurance
      .Driver’s license
      .Title
      .Registration
      .Quote from a licensed mechanic
