OK people, I changed my groups focus to saving money, I think we all find that important nowadays.

To get started, it’s important to get organized. Think of how you are going to sort and organize your coupons, you will have alot in no time. Personally, I keep mine in an accordian folder, sorted into categories, snacks, cleaners, cereal, and then alphabetically within each category.

Now it’s time for some homework. Every store has a different coupon policy, and they vary state to state. Call or stop into your local supermarkets, and ask what their policy is on double coupons and taking competitor coupons. You want to know what the amount of a coupon is that they double the value. Some stores will double up to 50 cents, others up to 65 cents. Also, if they take competitor coupons, does that include pharmacies like CVS and Rite Aid as well as Target and K Mart. If you need to, write down the policies of each store, until you can remember them.

Tell your friends and coworkers to save you coupons. If they are not using them, take them.

Plan on purchasing 4 copies of the Sunday newspaper. This will give you 4 copies of each coupon, so that you can take advantage of a great deal.

Visit coupons.com and smartsource.com and print out the coupons that pertain to you. Print multiples of the ones that are good for you. There’s more to this, but I’ll get into it in another post.

When you shop the first few times, its important to shop ONLY FOR THE COUPONED ITEMS. You really need to see the savings, and if you add other items to your cart, it wont seem like a major savings.

Be prepared to stock up. One tactic we will be using is stocking up on a sale item with enough quantity to get you through until the next sale. So plan on buying, say,  eight boxes of cereal instead of two. You will be getting those eight boxes for roughly the same prices as three boxes, so theres no tremendous out of pocket expense.
