From Seminole country in the north to Alligator Ally and the Keys Florida has been my home for over 10 years. I moved here with a mini van, 3 kids, 2 fish a cat and a U-haul. I figured there was tons for the kids to enjoy and as a travel agent of only a few years I thought it should be heaven.

Central FL is the place to be! I have always been an East Coast girl and the Atlantic (complete with Rt. 95) is only 3 hours from the Gulf of Mexico. That’s a 3 hour drive from Clearwater’s lazy relaxation to Coco Beach’s brisk surf and Daytona’s action. Now don’t get us wrong down here...the spring break thing only lasts for a couple of weeks a year and it’s not that easy for kids to book themselves with out lax parenting and more money than they should have access to. They‘re all trying to take cruises now anyway.
These are family beaches. There is no big casino or drinking in the streets!

Of course you know about Disney and the posh life style of south Florida but there are so many hidden treasures. Siesta Key, Sanibel Island, just to name a couple.

As a Philly girl I’m here to tell ya, it does get cold. We have about a week of real winter each year. Not all at once, but, yea.

One of our favorite pastimes in Florida is taking a picture of ourselves on the beach in a bathing suite on Christmas day. And then mailing it to our relatives in the North. Well, just so you know, it invariably rains on Christmas here but we find a way to make it work any way.

        • What a neat little story.  Love the Christmas picture taking on the beach.

I’m in South Carolina...and I love living here.  I wouldn’t want to  live anywhere else.  Where I am...it is centrally located....I’m about 2-3 hours from the mountains...and little over 2 hours from the beach.  5 hours from the Florida state line...and about 3 from the NC state line...and I do live on the GA/SC border.  There are so many places to go for the day...or for the weekend....Charleston, SC...Savannah, GA,...or ATlanta, GA...only 2 hours away.   Columbia..45 minutes.  It’s great.....and I love the weather.  I am so grateful I do not have to deal with snow....snow...and more snow.  I do own a coat...but wear it very little.  Right now...I have my windows open...and the evening air is nice and cool.  Now the summers are HOT!!!!  HUMID!!!  But..I’ll take that any day over cold, wet, snow.

Hilton Head...is callin my name this weekend......

        • I am in Central Florida.  Seminole County to be exact.  Born and raised Chicago.  I love Florida!  We made an excellent choice.  Trying to find time to get to Cayman Islands and Jamaica.  Probably need to set something up through you, Ladybug.

        • I’m also a Florida girl. My family lives in Northern Florida, Pensacola to be exact. I LOVE it there.
We have moved around a bit. I have lived in Chicago for 5 years (no mo snow!) and the longest has been in Southern California for 30+ (Long Beach!) but my heart remains firmly planted in P-Cola.
Living in Central Louisiana has been nice but a challenge for this beach loving lady. So, I have decorated my house to remind me of the shore. I have shells everywhere and sand and.....well you get the idea.
So, every fourth weekend of the month finds me in Pensacola. It’s a 6 hour drive through the bayous of Louisiana, and along the 10 freeway. Once I see that sign welcoming me to the Sunshine State I still get all giddy....I can’t wait for Friday!

        • I have been working up some great rates and fab itineraries for cruises lately.... especially those including the Caymans... it’s the air fare! I think they are getting ready for the holiday air travel thing.
Just send me dates, number of people and I’ll do the rest for you. You choose what works for you. I love my job. You know I’m sitting here in my p.j.s....but I had to chang the pic.

        • I live in south Florida, Broward county, near Ft. Lauderdale.  I work in Deerfield Beach and am 3 miles from the beach, many lunch hours have been spent along the beach.  I too am known for taking a picture standing next to a lifeguard stand at the beach on Christmas day, where the date shows on a sign board with the air and water temperature.  I then forward the picture to my relatives up north in western PA!  :)

I have lived in south Florida for over 20 years, having grown up in Lakewood, NJ, where I was 9 miles from the beach.

I love living in south Florida and do not miss the cold winters digging my car out of the snow and sliding while driving on the icy roads.

Central FL/Orlando is pretty cool as well! ;)
