In Detroit there was a magazine called Hour. And yearly they would have the best of the best awards on everything.
Well I was so happy to find in my Sunday paper that Memphis also does the same thing. So my plan is to try to visit most of these places. I don’t like sushi or seafood so those places are out out out. I am hoping that once I visit some of these places I will have a really good feel for Memphis.

Does your city do this too? And have you attempted to visit them all?

        • Yes, actually...I am in Berea, KY..a VERY, VERY small town, however they do it, too! Our neighboring cities Richmond and, of course, Lexington also do the same thing.

I do visit ALL the places in Berea that are listed as the Best and most of the places in Richmond as it is only about 15 miles away. However, Lexington is a 30 mile drive for me and I don’t get there as much as I would like to.

I think it is a really cool thing. Hopefully there are many cities out there that participate in this. It’s a great way for businesses to bring in new customers and for people to get out and try different things that they may normally not try if not for these ads. We actually also have a WORST list, too! Of course, I do stay away from those places..LOL!

        • Yes, they do have a special that has readers vote for their favorites. I have visited most of the ones that the readers agree on...the ones that I haven’t been to are the ones that serve food I’m not a fan of. There are a few new places I haven’t had a chance to try yet, but trust me I will...I am a foodie estaticestatic

        • You guys are making me hungry.  We have two places to eat here, the restuarant where I work or the fast food at the gas station.

I do love getting to a city where I have a choice of places to eat!

        • St. Louis puts out a “Best” list every year. When Michael and I were first dating, we made it a point to try new restaurants for every date (new to us, at least). It was a lot of fun. We still go to new places every now and then, but since we‘re currently spending the weekends at his place in the country, it’s not as easy. Driving into “the city” takes about 45 minutes. Once we sell the farm, we’ll get out more often. We also take at least 2 or 3 beach vacations every year, so we manage to discover cool places in other cities that way, too.

I’m with you on the sushi and seafood. I lived in Florida for 8 years - where seafood is fresh, plentiful and on every menu. It doesn’t matter what I’ve tried, I STILL don’t like it. I got really sick after eating shrimp once when I was a kid and I haven’t liked any kind of shellfish ever since.

Definitely let us know what treasures you find!
