I’m so angry that Bernie Madoff will probably not go to prison! Martha Stewart gets 6 months for a much smaller trade and he stole billions. Leona Helmsley also went to prison for something much smaller. Do men really hate successful women that much that they need to send them to prison??! I hate these double standards.

Stuff like this is why I try NOT to keep up with the news. It’s not what you did, it’s who you know. frown

        • It’s almost an afterthought, because of how much other bad stuff is happening on Wall Street. Martha did not go to trial or jail right away, and Bernie will get there eventually. I think people hopped on her because of the image she portrayed and the celebrity she has. No one even knows who Madoff is.

        • As a CPA, I will say that my profession is partly to blame for what is going on.  There are whores among us who will issue and sign off on financial statements that are totally bogus.  I understand that his auditors were two guys in a shopping strip.  Now how could two guys have enough time to reasonably and competently audit an operation of this size?

If our profession would hold true to the standards it sets, this type of fraud, similar to Enron, would not occur to such an extensive degree.

        • scape goats yes - such a high expectations set for playing house, raising kids, keeping up appearances - but step into the mans world and you get a high standard set - you must do better, act better, look better and never get caught in a week moment - and even then the rules are not the same - they treat many of us as week or “less than” until we have a failure moment....then they politely remind us if only we had stayed where we belong - Playing house.....

sorry - flash back to being the only female manager in a trucking co.  Had to fight everyday to get 1/2 of what the men did - and I promise you I worked as hard as any of em!

Lets just all hope and pray that our world gets leveled out a bit - more equality and less blame and finger pointing - - regarless of race or gender!

          xo

        • There’s no way Madoff won’t end up in prison. It’ll take awhile. I’m sure there will be delay after delay in court as he can certainly afford to make that happen. Someone who couldn’t would have been in jail by now, of course.
Scary- if the economy wouldn’t have dipped, how long would he have gotten away with this?

Just when I thought I was shockproof, something like that happens..  lol

I, like practically everyone, feel terrible for the people who have lost investments as well as life long savings. I can’t imagine what else WOULD happen to Madoff other than prison. Nothing else is fitting. Besides, it’s not like he can ever show his face in public again anywhere.

          What a scumbag.

As for Martha, if she wouldn’t have lied like she did, perhaps the outcome would have been different. She seems to be doing just fine now. I get a wierd vibe from her... like she might have a temper or something. lol
