When I am at work I dress very corporate to corporate casual depending on the day and customer being in house.  But when I’m home I dress in jeans and cute fashionable tops that allot of the younger girls are wearing.  I still have the same figure I had in my 20s but everyone says I can’t dress like that anymore. First lets get things straight nothing is hanging out here, I have children and I dress to be covered.  But everyone wants me to cut my hair and dress like they do.  First of all I don’t fit in womens cloths, hips, stomach I don’t have them so the womens cloths don’t fit me well. I watched that show what not to wear and I am dressing correctly according to them yet why do my freinds keep bugging me to look older?

        • They are probably jealous. There are ways to look both age appropriate and stylish and it sounds like you’ve got it down. Ignore the jealous ones. When I hit 40, a couple people asked me if I was going to cut my hair! I looked at them like they were crazy. Why? Just because you are over 40 doesn’t mean you have to cut your hair. Mine is not hanging down below my butt. In fact, to me, it’s shorter than I used to wear it. The heck with these people. I say as long as nothing is hanging out and it doesn’t look like you are vying desperately for attention, if you’ve got the figure, wear it!! happy

        • Wow, I am so happy for you that you have a great figure and you are self-confident; and I am so sorry for you that your friends don’t seem very nice at all.  Watch the shows you like, wear the clothes you like, and maybe shop for nicer friends!

        • Thanks for all your wonderful comments.  I have always done what I thought was best for me and not following the crowd and it’s nice to finally be with people that will encourage that for me.

        • That’s funny!  When I got pregnant with my first child my ex mom in law asked me if I was going to cut my hair, I asked her, “why would I do that???“. lol

As long as you‘re dressing for your figure and appropriately for the occasion, I wouldn’t listen to those who would have you dress another way. You‘re only as old as you feel.

        • It sounds like you‘re right on track and can disregard your detractors.
You are the one who needs to be comfortable in what you wear as it’s an expression of who you are!

If you have a great figure, then by all means, be proud of it.  Your hair and clothes are just one outward expression of the real beauty that is within.

        • I understand exactly what you mean.  I am 43 and I wear a size 1 and my children are always yelling at me to dress younger and then when I do they tell me that I look like I am dressing like a teenager.  There is no winning with them.  Yesterday I wore a cute dress with boots and tights(my daughter helped me pick it out) but my son nearly had a fit.  The dress came down to my knee.  How do you win?  Nancy03

        • I dress in what I feel comfortable in, physically and mentally!  A friend of mine once asked me when I was going to stop wearing a bikini..I told her when I’m dead!

Take a look at the people who are telling you what to wear and what not to wear. I’ve found that many of those who tell me to cover up or that I shouldn’t wear something...are jealous because they couldn’t even wear stuff like that when they were in their 20’s.

Laddie:  you are one HOT woman!  Be confident and do what makes you feel great.  If there are people out there who can’t take it, it’s not your problem, it’s theirs!

        • I get the same thing, my mom tells me to cut my hair and says to dress my age.  It’s not like it was back then.  I still shop in the juniors department.  A lot of us would have to TRY HARD to look frumpy lol!  I never thought about changing the way I dress because I’m older.  It’s what we wore in the 80s basically.  It’s who we are.

        • Rule of thumb here - hang out with younger people!  HAHA - just kidding!

Everyone is right - you were what you want.  As an FYI there are plenty of “little old lady” clothes in sizes (well I don’t know about 1s but) in 2 & 4’s but why should ya have to wear em if ya don’t wanna?!  I’m not going to!

I have to say the super low rise pants do drive me crazy though - Don’t want a plumber shot on the back of me - PLUS ITS COLD OUTSIDE - Don’t need any exposure! estatic

        • Once in my 30’s I put on a thong bikini and laid in my pool.  I had no neighbors and my yard was secluded.  I fell asleep.  When I woke up my teenage son came home and was livid.  He said, “Mom, put some f**king clothes on!”  I was confused, I still am, as to what my kids think is appropriate.  I wouldn’t wear a thong bikini in public, though.  Kids, and moms.  They make me feel like I’m crossing a line.

I have learned lately I have pulled away completely from people who clearly are pushing there personal issues on me. Someone told me just because someone give you a guiltburger does not mean you have to eat it. Let just say I have given up burgers!!! LOL
