Mashable just publishes an article that I think everyone of us that are in the web business should read.

Recently, a number of reports have indicated that sharing content on social networks has become more popular than sharing via email. Some even suggest that social networks have more total reach than email worldwide.

However, either email marketers simply don't buy the stats or haven't caught up to the times, because when it comes to sharing options in e-mail campaigns, the seemingly ancient "forward to a friend" dominates.

According to new stats published today by eMarketer, 41 percent of online retailers include such an option in their emails, while just 6 percent include features for sharing on social networks (7 percent include both).
