“When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he asked, ‘What are you really accomplishing here? Why are you trying to do all this alone while everyone stands around you from morning till evening?’
Moses replied, ‘Because the people come to me to get a ruling from God.’ [...]
‘This is not good!’ Moses’ father-in-law exclaimed. ‘You‘re going to wear yourself out—and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself.‘”
Exodus 18:14–15, 17–18
encouragement for today Moses' new job was acting as a judge of the people. It just seemed to have evolved. Jethro saw the toll it was taking and how Moses was trying to do it all himself. Are you trying to do too much? Are you getting worn out by the demands of other people? Don't try to do more than you can handle. It's not good for you or others. Learn to delegate or say no. Don't feel guilty about not doing more than you humanly can. Even Moses had to know his limits and learn that he couldn't do everything on his own.
