Last night, while we awaited the ding of the microwave that would announce the preparedness of our NutriSystem dinners, Scott wrapped me up in a big bear hug and nearly put out my eye with one of his mutant chest hairs.

When I complained that I was afraid of going blind before I could eat my chicken with fettuccine sauce, he stepped back and challenged me to prove it.

I reached forward and pulled the rogue hair to its full extended length. It sat high on his chest and jutted jauntily out the top of his  muscle shirt. With much chin-scrunching and neck twisting, Scott looked down in the general direction I indicated.

      “See it?”

“Jee-sus,” he said in disgust and walked out of the kitchen. “You see? This is what happens when they shave your chest in the goddamn hospital. When they‘re doing it, they‘re all like, ‘Oooh, you gonna look like a Chippendale,’ and I’m all ‘Lady, I turn 50 this year. To me, Chip and Dale are nothing more than a couple of chipmunks. Now, would you just hurry up and shave my balls while you‘re at it and then get the hell out of here?!‘” He panted slightly in the silence that descended upon the room, and then smiled at his own outburst.

“Did you get it all out of your system there, Scott?”

He shrugged. “Yeah. I think so.”

“Good.” I smiled. “Now get back in here and bring my tweezers with you...”
